The 88Rising Crew Drops Their New Album, Head in the Clouds

88Rising is a label/management company that I’m so proud of. I’ve talked about this a couple times on my social media, but 88Rising showcases Asian artists that normally don’t get a chance on many platforms. Sean from 88Rising was the guy who found Rich Brian (then Rich Chigga) after Brian had released “Dat $tick.” In recent years, 88Rising also signed Higher Brothers, a rap group from China who has made catchy hits like “Made in China,” “WeChat,” and more. To see that there is a platform in the music industry for Asian minority groups touches my heart. So, I’m happy to see all of these artists flourish.

Back in June, artists from 88Rising (Rich Brian, Joji, Higher Brothers, and August 08) released “Midsummer Madness” as the first single from the label’s joint album. Despite what looks like a lot of chefs in the kitchen, the track turned out to be really good and a perfect mix of sounds and verses from each artist. “Midsummer Madness” quickly charted and was in multiple Spotify playlists. The success from that one track foreshadowed the popularity of Head In The Clouds and how well it would do.

I think that Head In The Clouds is a brilliant move on behalf of 88Rising. Not only does it showcase all of their artists, but people who perhaps only wanted to listen to the album because of Rich Brian and Joji are now familiarized with other artists as well, such as Higher Brothers, AUGUST 08, NIKI, and more. Since there are so many artists on the album, it’s impossible to just categorize it into one genre. However, as a result, I believe that anyone and everyone can find at least one track they enjoy.
