Dead At 21: Lil Peep Overdoses On “Come Over When You’re Sober” Tour

Rest In Peep

Gustav Ahr (a.k.a. Lil Peep)

November 1, 1996 – November 15, 2017

Right before he had to take the stage for his tour stop in Tuscon, Lil Peep was sent to the hospital last minute due to an overdose on xanax and passed away later in the night.

The 21 year old rapper is widely-known as a soundcloud rapper but his musical sound certainly doesn’t fit the description. In his lyrics, he talks about love, drug vices, and mental health issues; all of this is accompanied with a sad, emotional sound. His debut album, Come Over When  You’re Sober Pt. 1 was released earlier this summer and created a new “emo rap”‘ wave in the music industry. His songs have a undertone of love and heartbreak, as he talks about taking drugs as a form of coping and expresses the difficulty of finding a will to live.

Though it seems like a lot of the rappers nowadays seem to glorify drug use, Lil Peep was struggling with depression and anxiety. People suffering from mental illness often abuse drugs as a temporary distraction or coping method.

From this tragic incident, I hope that everyone can look after the people around them who suffer from mental illnesses and not see them as a hindrance. The world could use a little more compassion and love.

RIP Lil Peep, hope you found the brightside.
