Thoughts On “Wolves” By Selena Gomez And Marshmello

Whether or not you like it, seeing these recent cross-genre collaborations is definitely a sign of the times. EDM is becoming more mainstream, and POP/EDM crossovers like Selena Gomez and Marshmello are a definite byproduct of that evolution.

Thoughts on the song?

I wanted to like this track. Really, I did. I always listen to new music with an open mind, no matter the circumstance. The truth is, this one wasn’t the best. Marshmello, who already gets quite a bit of hate online for his music and image, may not be helping this stigma too much with his latest collaboration. That said, the melodic beat he incorporated into this track was really the only part of it that I favored when listening. He brought that same Marshmello style of sound I’ve always enjoyed in the past.

However, Marshmello’s sound didn’t really seem to fit in with Selena’s style or her build up in the song. To me, I felt like I was listening to two different tracks that had been glued together for the sake of unique appeal, but failed to execute good transitions or captivate me. I almost felt like the song was rushed or something was missing from it.

Somehow, it just could have been better.

Whatever your thoughts, Wolves, by Selena Gomez and Marshmello, made number one on Today’s Top Hits by Spotify. Check them out and see for yourself.
