Grammy Nom. Producer Making Beats On An iPhone

Recently an article was released by Wired about Steve Lacy’s beat making process. Steve is a member of the Grammy-nominated ‘The Internet’ band. He also works with the likes of J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and others making beats on an iPhone.

In the video from Wired, Lacy is seen in the studio recording using only his iPhone and a guitar. Utilizing the iRig cell phone interface, Steve is able to track and edit in Garage Band over drum beats.

It has become clear that “fancy” production equipment isn’t as necessary when creatives like Steve are breaking the rules and leveraging available technology.
