Raiders vs. 49ers Week 9 Preview: Key Matchups, Injury Watch, Odds and Prediction

Las Vegas visits the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, November 8, with an opportunity to move above .500 against one of the NFC’s strongest teams. The Raiders enter 4–4 after beating the Jets 38–33, while San Francisco returns from its bye at 6–1 following its first loss of the season.

The Las Vegas Raiders stopped their losing streak in New York. Now they need to show that their second-half comeback can become something more than a one-week recovery.

Our Raiders vs. Jets recap documented the combination that rescued Las Vegas: efficient quarterback play, productive tight ends, a special-teams touchdown and a takeaway to finish the game.

Repeating the victory will require a more consistent defensive performance. San Francisco presents too many ways to punish the missed assignments and open running lanes that nearly cost the Raiders against New York.

Raiders vs. 49ers Game Time, TV Channel and Location

The Raiders visit the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday, November 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. Pacific, or 4:25 p.m. Eastern, with television coverage on FOX.

The Raiders’ current schedule Las Vegas Raiders confirms the updated time and network. Older schedule releases list 1:05 p.m. Pacific on CBS, but the matchup has moved into the later FOX window.

Local Raiders radio coverage is available through KOMP 92.3 FM and Raider Nation Radio 920 AM.

For Las Vegas, this is a second consecutive road game. San Francisco has the preparation advantage of coming out of its Week 8 bye.

What the Jets Win Actually Changed for Las Vegas

The Raiders needed to end their four-game skid, and the manner of the comeback supplied several encouraging signs.

Kirk Cousins protected the ball while keeping multiple targets involved. Brock Bowers finished scoring opportunities. Las Vegas also turned a late defensive stop into the possession that produced its go-ahead touchdown.

As covered in RMR’s breakdown of the 38–33 victory, the Raiders finally combined their offensive response with a successful finish.

The concern is everything required to reach that point. Las Vegas cannot assume another kickoff-return touchdown will offset a difficult defensive afternoon.

Our matchup read: the Raiders need to create a competitive game through ordinary execution. Productive first downs, secure tackling and possessions that end with points will matter more than waiting for one extraordinary play.

Kirk Cousins Must Keep the Offense on Schedule

Cousins completed 19 of 26 passes for 247 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions against the Jets, adding a rushing touchdown.

Those figures in the official Week 8 box score illustrate the efficiency Las Vegas should try to carry into Santa Clara. The Raiders do not need to chase a huge passing total. They need Cousins reaching manageable third downs and finding answers before pressure forces difficult throws.

Our offensive emphasis would be to establish quick completions, use motion to clarify coverage and take deeper opportunities when protection supports them.

An early deficit would complicate that approach. If San Francisco can anticipate repeated passing downs, the Raiders lose flexibility and give the defense more freedom to attack.

Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer Give the Raiders Options

Bowers caught seven passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns against New York. Michael Mayer added five receptions for 53 yards, giving Cousins another productive option.

Their combined contribution matters because San Francisco can prepare specifically to limit Bowers.

Our read: Las Vegas should move Bowers across formations while giving Mayer meaningful routes when coverage shifts. The objective is to make additional attention toward one tight end create opportunities for someone else.

The Raiders also need their receivers involved when defenders tighten around the middle. Jalen Nailor’s touchdown against the Jets demonstrated the value of finishing a possession through another target.

Bowers should remain central to the plan. The offense becomes more difficult to defend when Cousins can distribute the ball without losing efficiency.

Mike Washington Jr. and Ashton Jeanty Need Productive Touches

Mike Washington Jr. handled 25 carries for 83 yards against New York, while Ashton Jeanty contributed 64 receiving yards. The Raiders’ rushing and receiving statistics show how differently the two backs contributed to the victory.

Against San Francisco, the important question is what those touches accomplish.

Our preference would be to maintain flexibility. Use Washington to support the ground game, involve Jeanty in space and avoid repeatedly creating second-and-long with unsuccessful early-down runs.

Screens and underneath passes can provide useful answers when defenders close quickly. They still require clean blocking and decisive execution.

Holding possession only helps if the Raiders eventually threaten the end zone.

Brock Purdy Gives Las Vegas a Different Defensive Test

San Francisco entered its bye after losing 29–20 at Atlanta. Purdy threw for 288 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in that game.

The Falcons’ official game center recorded those passing figures, while San Francisco’s postgame review identified four team turnovers.

That result gives the Raiders useful film. It does not establish that Purdy will repeat those mistakes.

Our defensive priority would be to challenge his timing without abandoning coverage responsibilities. Las Vegas needs pressure that affects the throw, followed by tackling that limits what happens after the catch.

Allowing easy early completions would make San Francisco’s offense much harder to disrupt on later downs.

Christian McCaffrey’s Status Could Shape the Matchup

McCaffrey’s availability is an important early-week storyline.

In the 49ers’ October 26 injury update, Kyle Shanahan described a mild hamstring strain and expressed optimism about McCaffrey’s recovery after the bye. That was an early update rather than clearance for this game.

If available, McCaffrey would require attention as both a runner and receiver. Against Atlanta, he produced 39 rushing yards and 61 receiving yards.

Our matchup concern is the space between those assignments. Linebackers cannot attack the handoff so aggressively that they lose receiving responsibilities, and defensive backs must tackle when San Francisco gets the ball outside.

George Kittle Tests the Middle of the Defense

Kittle caught eight passes for 88 yards against Atlanta, providing Purdy with substantial production despite the loss.

The 49ers’ Week 7 review highlighted his performance among the offense’s stronger individual contributions.

For Las Vegas, the challenge extends beyond one coverage assignment.

Our read: defenders need to communicate through motion and play-action while maintaining proper depth. Hesitation can create a passing window; overcommitting can create room behind the defense.

Kittle also makes finishing tackles important. Contact must prevent extra yardage rather than merely slow the play.

Maxx Crosby and the Turnover Opportunity

Atlanta demonstrated that San Francisco can be forced into costly mistakes.

The Falcons’ postgame breakdown described pressure and defensive takeaways disrupting the 49ers’ momentum.

For the Raiders, Maxx Crosby needs complementary help. One edge rusher cannot consistently rescue coverage or compensate for an ineffective run defense.

Our defensive emphasis would be to win early downs, create longer passing situations and make Purdy hold the ball. That offers a more realistic route to disruption than relying on a takeaway after repeatedly conceding manageable gains.

Raiders vs. 49ers Injury Watch

San Francisco’s post-bye availability could materially change this matchup. The 49ers’ October 26 update identified Nick Bosa, Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel Sr. among players with a chance to return following the break, while emphasizing that those returns were not guaranteed.

Bosa’s status could influence protection planning. The receivers’ availability could change how Las Vegas allocates coverage.

This November 2 preview precedes the week’s final game designations. Practice participation and the final injury reports will provide firmer answers.

Betting Takeaways: Sportsbooks Favor San Francisco

Early market listings place the Raiders as substantial road underdogs.

A November 2 sportsbook comparison from Raiders Centric listed DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM at San Francisco −9.5 with a 51.5-point total. Separately, the Action Network matchup page displayed San Francisco −10.5 with a 48.5-point total.

Those differing snapshots underline why the exact operator and timing matter.

The market expects San Francisco to control the matchup. Las Vegas’ path to outperforming that expectation requires sustained offense, fewer defensive breakdowns and another clean turnover performance from Cousins.

RMR Prediction: 49ers 33, Raiders 35

Our early pick is Las Vegas making a comeback to win. The Raiders have enough receiving talent to create scoring opportunities, and their response against the Jets gives the offense something to build on. The defensive inconsistency remains the larger concern against a rested opponent with multiple ways to attack.

An upset requires Las Vegas to protect possessions and finish drives while forcing San Francisco into difficult third downs. If the Raiders spend the afternoon recovering from explosive plays, the assignment becomes considerably harder.
