The Drowns Release New Single “Have A Heart” Ahead Of Harsh Reality

Seattle punk rockers The Drowns are giving fans another look at their upcoming album with the release of “Have A Heart,” arriving ahead of Harsh Reality. The release is scheduled for September 18 through Pirates Press Records.

The track leads into a 13 song record that finds The Drowns sharpening their melodic punk rock while refusing to shy away from what’s happening in the world around them. Produced by punk legend Bill Stevenson and recorded at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado, Harsh Reality brings together the energy of the band’s previous releases with a much more focused approach to songwriting.

For a group that has spent years earning fans through records, festivals, and relentless touring, “Have A Heart” offers another look at where The Drowns are heading next.

Harsh Reality Doesn’t Avoid The World Around

The Drowns aren’t approaching Harsh Reality as a collection of songs detached from the current moment. The upcoming album is described as an unapologetically political punk record, giving the band room to address difficult subjects while keeping the hooks and melodies central to its identity.

Vocalist and guitarist Rev Peters, vocalist and bassist Andy Wylie, and drummer Jake Margolis handled the majority of the performances themselves. The result is a record rooted firmly in punk rock without forcing every song into the exact same mold.

That balance is important for a band like The Drowns. Their music has always carried the urgency associated with punk, but they’ve continued experimenting with different sounds throughout their catalog. Harsh Reality takes those influences and brings them together within 13 tightly written songs. “Have A Heart” now gives listeners another opportunity to hear that approach before the full record arrives.

Bill Stevenson Helps Shape The New Record

Having Bill Stevenson behind the boards adds some serious punk history to Harsh Reality. Between his work with Descendents and Black Flag, along with decades of production experience, Stevenson understands the genre from both sides of the studio. Rather than stripping away what makes The Drowns recognizable, the sessions at The Blasting Room appear to have pushed the band toward tighter performances and more focused songwriting.

The album was also mixed by Jason Livermore, whose credits include Teenage Bottlerocket. While the core trio performs most of Harsh Reality, a couple of familiar names also make appearances.

Zach Blair of Rise Against contributes additional guitar work to “Vengeance,” while Matt Hensley of Flogging Molly brings accordion to “3rd & Pike.” Those additions expand the album without turning it into a guest-heavy project. The focus remains firmly on The Drowns and the record they’ve created together.

The Drowns Aren’t Staying Home For Long

The Drowns have spent much of 2026 doing exactly what punk bands do best: staying on the road.

Earlier this summer, the band shared stages with Agent Orange, The Bouncing Souls, The Suicide Machines, Death By Stereo, and Teenage Bottlerocket before returning to Blackpool, United Kingdom, for another appearance at Rebellion Festival.

Their schedule hasn’t slowed down since.

The Drowns are currently finishing a run of European dates that includes shows alongside Agnostic Front and H2O. From there, they’ll return home to the Pacific Northwest in time to celebrate the release of Harsh Reality.

Another European run is already planned with The Bones and Murphy’s Law, followed by dates in the United Kingdom with Sheer Terror.

That touring schedule has played a major role in the band’s growth. The Drowns have built their reputation show by show, steadily developing an international following rather than relying on one breakout moment.
