Metal Icon Kai Hansen Releases New Single “Welcome To Life”

A few musicians have left a larger mark on European power metal than Kai Hansen. From helping launch Helloween to building Gamma Ray into another cornerstone of the genre, Hansen has spent decades influencing the sound that generations of heavy metal bands would eventually follow. Now, he is turning the attention back toward his own musical world with another preview of his upcoming solo album, Born With A Hammer.

Hansen has officially released “Welcome To Life,” the second single from the forthcoming record and the follow up to “Feeding The Beast.” While the previous track introduced the heavier side of the project, “Welcome To Life” takes a different route by combining classic heavy metal with punk energy, rock and roll attitude, and an uplifting message about appreciating the life you already have.

“Welcome To Life” Shows Another Side Of Kai Hansen

Welcome To Life” pulls from several different corners of his musical background. Driving guitars remain at the center of the track, but frequent tempo changes and strong melodic passages give the song a loose, spontaneous energy. Elements of punk and traditional rock and roll also work their way into the arrangement, giving “Welcome To Life” a noticeably different personality from “Feeding The Beast.”

That contrast is important for Born With A Hammer. Placed as the second track on the album, “Welcome To Life” quickly establishes that Hansen isn’t interested in building an entire record around one sound. Instead, the album appears ready to move freely between the different influences that have shaped his career.

Lyrically, the song carries an equally straightforward message.

“Welcome To Life” centers around accepting life for what it is instead of constantly focusing on what’s missing. It’s about making the most of what you have, embracing the unpredictability that comes with getting older, and continuing forward without allowing regret to control the journey.

Born With A Hammer Brings Together An Impressive Lineup

Hansen didn’t build his latest solo chapter alone. Born With A Hammer was produced by Hansen alongside Eike Freese and Alexander Dietz. The recording lineup also features Freese on guitar, Heaven Shall Burn’s Alexander Dietz on bass, Carcass drummer Dan Wilding, and Induction guitarist Tim Hansen.

That combination brings together musicians from several different areas of modern heavy music, giving Hansen plenty of room to experiment without losing the classic metal foundation behind the record. Across its 10 songs, Born With A Hammer will combine traditional heavy metal with punk attitude, hard rock energy, and the melodic songwriting that has remained a defining element of Hansen’s career.

With “Feeding The Beast” and “Welcome To Life” now offering two different sides of the album, fans are beginning to get a much clearer picture of what to expect.

Kai Hansen Starts Another Chapter

Welcome To Life” doesn’t sound like an artist trying to prove his legacy. Hansen established that a long time ago.

Instead, the single captures a veteran musician still enjoying the freedom of creating heavy music without restricting himself to the sound people might expect. The guitars are unmistakably Hansen, but the punk influence, rock and roll attitude, and carefree energy show that Born With A Hammer isn’t simply looking backward.

Following the heavier introduction provided by “Feeding The Beast,” “Welcome To Life” expands the scope of the upcoming album and gives fans another reason to expect plenty of variety across its 10 tracks.

After decades spent helping define European heavy metal, Kai Hansen is still finding new roads to travel, and Born With A Hammer looks ready to take listeners along for the ride.
