40 Tons Is Providing A Canna Christmas For Cannabis Prisoners Families

Legacy cannabis brand 40 Tons is bringing holiday cheer to the families of incarcerated cannabis prisoners with their Canna Christmas drive event.

The group is looking to continue the work of cannabis activist Mickey Martin, who provided Christmas for countless families affected by the war on drugs. The goal of this event is to provide gifts and financial relief to five selected families that currently have a prominent household member incarcerated for a cannabis crime.

On December 3rd from 3 pm to 7 pm, the Canna Christmas gathering will take place at the Green Street building in Los Angeles. You can show up to the gathering with a gift valued at $25 or more. Monetary donations will be accepted as well. Gifts should be aimed at children aged 3-17. Gifts could include toys, games, school supplies, winter clothing, movie tickets, or grocery gift cards. Come meet the families involved, enjoy food, drinks, and cannabis culture all under one roof. There are always holiday parties to celebrate the plant itself. However, this event will provide solid vibes in the heart of LA while making a direct impact on those affected by the sacrifices made for this plant.

The 40 Tons Connection

The 40 Tons organization knows firsthand what it’s like to be both personally incarcerated during the holidays or to have a loved one on the inside. 40 Tons CEO Loriel Alegrate said, “Canna Christmas is near and dear to my heart. It wasn’t long ago that I was in the same shoes as many of the women we are helping. When my husband was in prison it took a major toll on our family, especially during the holidays. I know how difficult it is with collect calls, commissary, and still provide gifts for the kids.”

Loriel’s husband, Anthony, served two years behind bars while Loriel held it down for their three kids. He commented, “When I was in prison on cannabis offenses, I remember what it was like missing the holidays. It sucked! And I was grateful when people would help us out. It meant the world to me. Canna Christmas is 40 Tons’ way of giving back to those affected by Cannabis Criminalization.”

40 Tons co-founder, Corvain Cooper, has a story from the history books and a direct connection to Mickey Martin. He was sentenced to a mandatory life sentence for a non-violent cannabis crime. Even though he was pardoned after serving eight years, his family knows what it’s like thinking daddy will never be able to celebrate the holidays in person again. He credits the late Martin for ensuring his family always felt love during the holidays by providing gifts for his kids. “Mickey Martin never forgot about us. Every year he got my kids Christmas presents and made it feel special for them even though their daddy was serving a life sentence,” remarked Cooper. “I love Mickey Martin for what he did for me and it’s a blessing I am free today. I feel it is my duty to pay it forward in his name.”
