After a highly successful start to his year with ‘DREAMLAND 2021,’ Grammy-nominated artist ZHU continues to make huge moves. This time he’s remixing Vince Staples, Cyn, and Mabel for the celebratory ‘Pokémon 25: The Blue EP.’ Continuing their tradition on dual releases, ‘The Blue EP’ is the other side of ‘The Red EP’ released earlier this month.
‘Pokémon 25: The Blue EP’ features the same three songs from ‘The Red EP,’ but now they’re spiced up by California-native ZHU. The EP starts with an electro-pop track by Mabel titled “Take It Home,” that features island-y drums and ripping synths. I wouldn’t be surprised if we heard this track in the next Lion King live-action. Next is “Wonderful” by Cyn which is the lighter of the three, featuring soft vocals and dreamy synths.
The highlight of ‘Pokémon 25: The Blue EP’ has got to be the ZHU and Vince Staples combination featuring Trombone Shorty titled, “Got ‘Em.” This track features Staples signature weighty flow over a rolling trap beat. Trombone Shorty peaks throughout the whole track, but comes roaring through with a piping solo near the end.

The upcoming ‘Pokémon 25: The Album’ compilation will include theses tracks and more. Releasing this fall by Capitol Records, the compilation will also include J Balvin, Katy Perry, and Post Malone. This is part of a yearlong campaign that The Pokémon Company is engaged in with Universal Music Group.
ZHU’s remixes for ‘Pokémon 25: The Blue EP’ are a special component of the P25 Music program. His alternate versions of The Red EP songs allow music fans to celebrate a part of Pokémon history while enjoying something completely new and different.

Palmer continues, “Pokémon fans will especially enjoy sound effects from classic Pokémon video games in some of his tracks. ZHU’s mastery of the remix and unique sound, paired with the fantastic original songs, continue to build out the breadth of amazing global artists who have come together to help us celebrate 25 years of Pokémon.”
ZHU collaborates with Pokémon on merchandise as well
ZHU continues to pursue his passion for fashion by collaborating with Pokémon to create street-wear inspired merch combining his own logo with different characters and designs from within the Pokémon world. Also, expect ZHU’s favorite Pokémon Gengar to be incorporated.
He states, “I had a great time designing a collection for my merch collaboration with Pokémon. As a lifelong fan of Pokémon, I wanted to bring back a flash of the 90s into today’s fashion. Of course, I had to incorporate my favorite Pokémon Gengar. I can’t wait for my fans to see this unique line and I’m excited for them to hear my new mixes too.”
Fans can keep track of Pokémon 25 celebratory music and content on their website.
