The Portland-based duo, Zentril, just dropped another track on us titled; It’s Over. To start with, the aesthetic of this song definitely ascribes to an attitude of gloom. Regardless, I enjoy the indie-electro-pop feel of this duo and their touchy-feely modernistic approach. Zentril’s indie roots take me back innately to artists like The Shins or the earlier days of Modest Mouse; such as their album This Is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About.
Zentril – It’s Over
“Stay away, I’ll never run into your arms again
Stay the same, you couldn’t fool me with a thousand changes
All that was prophecized to burn bright, has now descended into darkness
Maybe we can be together someday when we are older
Now the ash is falling down on the city like we’re over
And our story would have ended better if we were bolder”
The message of this song seems to be pretty clear and easily relatable. We’ve all been to this place before; gloomy, distraught, let down. These are feelings that everyone understands, if not from the firsthand experience of losing someone, then simply as a component of being alive.
What I admire about this track is the simplicity in which this feeling or experience is expressed. There is a sort of finality which can be heard. A feeling of sadness, but also of acceptance, which makes the song itself feel genuine.
