You Should Know: Budding Atlanta Rapper GRIP, Shady Records Signee

Atlanta has a reputation for being one of the most influential hip-hop hotspots in the nation. Left and right, we consistently see fresh faces making a name for themselves in the scene, and then taking off across the nation. Atlanta native rapper GRIP is one of those guys on the brink who steadily made a name for himself in his hometown, and is now taking off beyond his roots.

The budding rapper has found himself a place as the most recent signee at Eminem’s Shady Records. With a legend like Slim Shady co-signing his talent, you know GRIP is the real deal.

GRIP has been rapping for well over a decade

Though he’s only been releasing music on major platforms since 2018, his 2017 mixtape “Porch” is what originally put him on the map. And prior to that, GRIP had been rapping since early high school. At a little over 30-years-old, GRIP has over a decade of rhyming behind him.

Don’t expect the typical Atlanta hip-hop sound from him. You’re going to hear more 90’s influence in his music than local influences like Migos and Lil Baby. You won’t find clout chasing and street bragging in any of his tracks. Instead he uses his life experiences to tell his story of growth in a relatable way. All packaged in a witty and playful, yet assertive delivery.

It’s likely you’ve heard GRIP’s music before

In just a short amount of time, the Atlanta native has accomplished much more than just numbers and a record deal. GRIP’s music has been used across different forms of entertainment, with his track 100YD Dash featured on Madden NFL 20, and 911 (Clap for Em) on HBO’s Euphoria. He’s also taken the stage at countless shows and festivals such as A3C Festival in Atlanta.

What makes GRIP different than the hundreds of other rappers grinding out of Atlanta? His authenticity. His genuine character translates into his craft and touches the people around him. GRIP doesn’t take to the typical “fake it ’til you make it” mindset of many young rappers. He stays in his lane, focuses on his craft, remains authentic, and the success naturally comes with it.
