When it comes to Pacific Northwest hip-hop, the east side of Washington is slept on. Spokane has a touch of impact. You’ve heard it gets lit in the Tri-Cities but that’s about the extent of what you’ve heard. Did you know right now there are a handful of Yakima hip-hop artists that are more than worth regular rotation on your playlist?
Yakima is more known for the possibility of being shot than anything else. There’s always been a hip-hop scene brewing but at this current moment, there is some serious talent you need to hear.
Taz Allen
Taz Allen may be one of the most talented lyricists in the entire Pacific Northwest. Straight up. The Yakima, WA based emcee has insane mic presence and industry ready melodies. His latest EP, Copacetic is a perfect example of all of the above. Check out his video from the title track off the album.
Coaster
Coaster is one of the biggest hip-hop artists Yakima has seen the last decade. Consistently touring, dropping content, and engaging with fans, the Selah-based rapper has surpassed many indie rappers across the Pacific Northwest. His last offering ‘Prolly On His Way’ has amassed over 35k plays on all platforms.
Kiid’s World
Kiid had been relatively quiet for a few years until a barrage of new music over the last 9ish months. He’s honed in on a raw emotional sound that I believe has been perfected on the record ‘Gone.’ This song is crazy, I dare you not to play it a few times.
M-Status
M-Status is a hit-making producer and artists from the Yakima area. Keyword in that first statement is ‘hit-making.’ From melodic mastery to infectious hooks, Stats has produced for platinum artists as well as his own recordings. He’s dropped a few records as of late and ‘The East’ certainly has a groove.
