There are a few classic strains that are easily recognizable to the everyday smoker. Many brands cultivate their own versions of these strains with subtle differences in each. The Wedding Cake strain by Category 5 Farms is an example of a brand taking one of these classic strains and making it their own. This popular strain is an indica-dominated hybrid known for its relaxing high.
In today’s West Coast Weed Tour Review, @JoeyJayPing finds out if the highly recommended strain lives up to its predecessors.
First Impressions
The Wedding Cake nugs are housed in a bold-colored package that is impossible to miss. The bright pink Mylar bag features the Category 5 Farms logo in a retro blue color.
The design is beautiful. However, the choice of packaging with a Mylar bag may contribute to drying out the nugs. This results in a harsher smoke. If the strain was stored in a jar instead, we might see some better-preserved cannabis.
The nugs themselves are a beautiful dark green with flashes of purple throughout. Trichomes absolutely cover the Wedding Cake strain. The flower has a spicy, earthy smell.
After Joey cracks open the nugs, he immediately gets a strong whiff of gas. A gassy smell points towards a super strong high. In other words, the strain may be good for insomnia, nausea, or just sitting down and relaxing.
With a TCH level at 27.26%, CBD at 0.331%, and total cannabanoids at 32.63%, you can tell the flower is potent before you even open the bag.
One-hit Review
Joey’s first hit of Wedding Cake brings out the delicious and subtle flavors that the smell hinted at. Earthy, doughy flower and sweet, ice cream cake gas combine to leave the smoker with a taste deserving of the name “Wedding Cake”.
There aren’t many hints of pine in this strain. This makes the strain unique from other versions of the flower that are very piney. The potency of the strain is super high, meaning the smoker will be feeling the strain’s strong effects immediately.
Category 5 managed to cultivate a delicious, and relaxing strain that lives up to the reputation of Wedding Cake, while still making it their own. The total experience of smoking this flower led Joey to give the strain an overall score of 8.75 out of 10.
