Saying that I’m obsessed with my local underground hip-hop scene is an understatement. For over a decade, I have been following Seattle hip-hop; watching artists develop from dropping their first EP to becoming a Town legend.
As of lately, I’ve been watching the entire Pacific Northwest area grow exponentially. They’ve brought many artists to my attention that were from different regions. The more people I find, the more curious I get as to what the dynamic is in their local scene. So, I decided to go on the ultimate crate digging adventure.
Throughout 2019, every Sunday will be dedicated to breaking down the underground hip-hop community in a different state. Starting with Alabama, I’ll be running through the country alphabetically to break down the past, present, and hopeful future of each state’s indie rap scene. I’m scoping the deepest, darkest depths of Bandcamp, Instagram, Soundcloud, and Google to create a snapshot of these cultures.
