Last night, The Crocodile was the place to be for a Reggae show in Seattle. Two Story Zori and Jessica Domingo opened up for Tribal Theory. Opening the night with some summer vibes was Two Story Zori who got the crowd moving and grooving. People slowly started to fill in as they played their set. Occasionally they stopped to pump up the crowd even more by reminding the crowd that Tribal Theory was eventually going to be playing.
Jessica Domingo brought a different kind of vibe to the show. Her mellow music was perfect for the lovers in the crowd. Domingo’s music was drastically slower than Two Story Zori, but the crowd was still grooving with her the entire time. Her stage presence captivated the audience. Throughout her entire set people continued to move towards the front. I had just finished my second joint from Saint’s Joints when her set started and the NYC Diesel had me moving the entire time.
After her set ended the crowd immediately pushed forward. Quickly filling up were spots vacated by people who moved towards the bar for more alcohol. Tribal Theory came out and the crowd went crazy. Constantly moving around the crowd while people handed the band their phones for Snapchat’s and selfies. Having only been to Reggae shows at Marymoore I was unsure of what to expect, but The Crocodile lived up to my expectations. I managed to find myself a corner on the side of the stage where I was given a great view, but not squished by people pushing forward.
Tribal Theory’s set was an hour and a half. They could’ve easily played until 1 or 2 AM and the crowd would’ve been happy with it. They played a solid mix of their older stuff off of their first album Tribal Theory to their new song Part Time Lovers.
Throughout their entire set, they only stopped a handful of times to talk to the crowd. At one point in the set, they paused to give the mic to someone that was helping with equipment. He got on stage and it did not take long once he started talking to figure out what was going to happen. He ended up proposing to his girlfriend on stage. The crowd was happy before that happened, but this brought a whole new energy to the show. Tribal Theory serenaded them on stage while every photographer in the venue snapped pictures. The entire crowd sang along when they covered Bye Bye Bye from Nsync.
The show had something for everyone. Slow songs for dancing with your significant other to groovy Cali Reggae for dancing all around. The crowd matched Tribal Theory’s energy the entire time. Check out Tribal Theory’s Spotify if you need more of their music, or you want to relive their set from last night. Watch for there new album, “Time Lapse.”
