When it was announced that Diplo would have a set at Stagecoach, a lot of people turned their heads. Everyone wondered what an EDM DJ/producer was doing, playing a set at the Coachella of country music. Then, in late April Diplo announced his new country music project, Thomas Wesley.
Diplo is all too familiar with having music projects. Other than his moniker as Diplo, he’s also a part of Major Lazer, LSD (with Sia and Labrinth), Silk City (with Mark Ronson), and Jack Ăś (with Skrillex). Thomas Wesley is just another project added onto his ongoing list, but this time, his birth name is attached. He just premiered the video for his debut track, “So Long” featuring country singer, Cam.

With his music, Diplo doesn’t limit or set any boundaries for his music. He has experimented with a vast variety of genre and sounds. The artist told SiriusXM that growing up in Tennessee, he had listened to hip-hop and country music equally side by side.
Diplo states, “I feel like country music can be a global music.” He continues, “It can be something beautiful for the rest of the world, but we have to have an open mind. I think a lot of country artists feel like they have to be applying certain rules, and I feel like music is music, and you’re beautiful for what you do as a country artist whoever you are, and if you experiment and you know your fans, they’re going to follow you or they might not, but make great music, and they’re gonna love great music.”
