Starting his journey from modest roots, Teejay, a 29-year-old songwriter from Montego Bay, has emerged a rising star in music. Teejay has released his debut EP, I Am Chippy, through Warner Records, and it stands as a testament to his perseverance and artistic prowess.
The Roots of Teejay
FKA Timoy Janeyo Jones and nicknamed Up Top Boss, Teejay’s upbringing in Montego Bay was characterized by challenges and limited means. Growing up with his siblings under the care of his mother and uncle in a humble boardhouse, Teejay discovered solace and purpose in music.
At nine years old, he made his musical debut with “I Know.”
This was featured on Don Corleone’s 2005 Seasons Riddim, penned by his brothers Tippa and Ice. The track garnered significant airplay on Jamaica’s IRIE FM radio station, marking the commencement of Teejay’s remarkable musical journey.
Despite facing obstacles, Teejay’s talent and determination propelled him forward. In 2015, he earned a coveted spot at Jamaica’s renowned annual music festival, Reggae Sumfest, catapulting him to nationwide recognition. Over the years, Teejay’s unique sound and lyrical prowess have cultivated a dedicated fan base. Hits like “People,” “Bitcoin,” “Unfaithful Games,” and “Rags To Riches” dominated the Jamaican airwaves and streets.

Collaborations with icons such as Vybz Kartel and mentorship from Grammy-winning legend Shaggy cement his position in the dancehall scene. Tracks like “De Gyal Dem Time” and “Drift,” gained popularity on TikTok and topped charts, propelling Teejay into international stardom.
I Am Chippy
With I Am Chippy, his debut EP, Teejay provides insight into his personal journey and artistic growth. Co-executive produced by Grammy-winning dancehall icon Shaggy, alongside Teejay, Sharon Burke, and Steve Carless, the EP showcases Teejay’s versatility as an artist. From hard-hitting dancehall anthems to uplifting tracks like “Star” featuring his 11-year-old son Jaydon and Quada, Teejay’s music transcends limits and resonates globally.

Additionally, the EP features Teejay’s breakout anthem “Drift” and its remix with Nigerian afrobeats sensation Davido. This particular track underscores his international appeal and influence.
