Seattle’s very own psychedelic and alternative rock indie label, Freakout Records, will be showcasing some of its local and international signees at SXSW this year. Of the six artists they’ll be showcasing, two are from Seattle. The rest are from Austin, Albuquerque, Mexico City, and even London.
Towards the end of last year Freakout records held their annual “Freakout Fest” that saw many of their acts from all around the U.S. performing. Read about my experience rocking out at the 6th annual edition of the festival here.
Freakout Records has been low-key scouring the globe for purveyors of trippy and raucous rock n’ roll for years. If you haven’t gotten to know any of the artists on the bill below, now is as good a time as ever to have a listen. The people at Freakout are keeping the experimental rock roots of Seattle alive in a global taste-making style that is worth tuning-in to.
I’m personally excited to catch a set from their longtime signees and Seattle darlings, Smokey Brights. They’ll be playing with the rest of the Freakout roster on Thursday the 14th at the Javelina on Rainey St.
