Saturday marked the final day of SXSW, and we have so much to talk about. Over the past nine days, there have been over 450 sessions held for on goers to experience. Throughout the sessions Rolling Stone, and Freaknik the documentary hosted music showcases for the public to enjoy.
Performers included the likes of Veeze, Flo Milli, Lola Brooke, and so many other other artists.
Sydney Sweeney stopped by to talk about her journey to become of the most recognized actresses in Hollywood.
Technology of the future was also introduced at the creative industries expo, and Respect My Region had front row seats on all the action you may have missed.
SXSW Music Showcases Recap
Rolling Stone hosted a four day ‘Future of Music’ event. They held nightly concerts at ACL Live open to the public. Music and Platinum badge holders received priority admittance, and a limited number of rsvps each night were invited in to attend. Fans were lined up for over 6 hours just to get a glimpse of the new wave of artists.
On night one, Teezo Touchdown headlined while Lola Brooke, Karrahboo, Veeze, and Chase Shakur opened up the show. Teezo made sure to show love to his fans standing outside the venue to see him, as he drove around on an electric scooter to greet them all pre-show. Gates opened at 5:30pm and performances kicked off at 8pm.
Chase Shakur started the night followed by Karrahboo, Lola Brooke, Veeze, and headliner Teezo Touchdown. Brooklyn-native Lola Brooke delivered a memorable performance with hits like Don’t Play With It, Just Relax, and So Disrespectful. Brooke ignited an energy that could be felt throughout the room the entire set.
The night was filled with dancing, cheering, and joy as fans got to witness a concert for free that you’d normally would pay hundreds of dollars to attend. FreakNik also held a showcase of their own.
Freaknik Music Showcase
In celebration of the upcoming March 21st Hulu release of Freaknik: The Wildest Party Never Told, Jermaine Dupri and Uncle Luke hosted a music showcase at Stubbs. The documentary will highlight the rise and fall of the biggest party in black American culture.
The lineup included Ying Yang Twins, Flo Milli, DJ Drama, Bun B, Trae Tha Truth, and Big Boi. Fans were smiling ear to ear being able to hear classic hits like Get Low, Int’l Players Anthem, Whistle While You Twurk, among more.
Flo Milli was only newer generation performance of the night but did not disappoint. She performed Never Lose Me, Conceited, In the Party, and a few others. The Mobile, Alabama native also headlined night 3 of the future of music showcase, hosted by Rolling Stone. Her remix to Never Lose Me just dropped, which features SZA and Cardi B.
Aside from the music side of things, technology and featured sessions were major highlights for week 2 of SXSW.
Technology & Featured Sessions
We made it a point to check out the creative industry expo in the Austin Convention Center. The multi-day exhibition featured technology companies giving hands on demonstrations of what’s to be released in the near future.
A product that personally stood out for me was the Uni-One, a product created by Honda.
The product allows you to sit in a mobile chair and control it solely by shifting body weight. After watching demonstrations, I began to realize that our future world will soon look nothing like our current or present reality.
That last session we got to check out included one of the world’s top actresses, Sydney Sweeney. She spoke in a front of a packed house of young women and men, eager to soak up knowledge about the movie industry. In her hour session she spoke on the early beginnings of her career, challenging moments, and what’s to come in the future for her career. Sydney also attended the world premiere for her upcoming movie immaculate.
Even after all the sessions I attended and got to photograph, I felt like it was so much more I wish I went to at SXSW. But honestly, that’s the best part about it. You’ll never feel like you’ve seen it all, which makes you want to always come back the following years.
SXSW is an event for creators at any level of their career. The networking possibilities are endless, the city is welcoming, and you’re bound to experience something new during your time there.
Tickets are currently already on sale for next year’s event.
