Summer Meltdown 2018 is fastly approaching. The festival returns to the scenic Darrington Music Park August 2-5. Darrington is located 90 minutes north of Seattle, close to Arlington, Washington. This park is a 40 acre of outdoor-wonderscape, with much of the campground nestled between a river and douglas fir tree forest.
While the festival has gained notoriety in recent years for its star-studded electronic lineups, the festival still retains a heavy bluegrass/country presence. Darrington Music Park has been home of the Darrington Bluegrass Festival for over 30 years and is still owned by the Country Music Makers Association.
Jason Clauson started Summer Meltdown as a seasonal party for his band Flowmotion. The first Summer Meltdown event took place on the San Juan Islands in 2000 and it was 200 friends and acquaintances in a two-acre field. Attendance quickly grew and the isolation of the islands became too much of a hassle to deal with, so they moved.
The second location was quickly established and 700 people showed up and they were forced to find a new venue once again. The festival has continued to grow since they started renting out the Darrington Music Park in 2005.
This years lineup is proof of the growth as they wrangled up electronic music royalty, Bassnectar, and fan favorite Big Gigantic as 2018 headliners. Seattle MC Dave B will hold it down for the Seattle underground in Darrington this August.
