You don’t have to be a fan of the mighty Souls of Mischief to have heard their work. In their three-plus decades together, the hip-hop veterans have become a household name among fans of the genre as well as novices. The title track of their debut studio album, 93 ’Til Infinity, is a staple of West Coast lore and continues to make the rounds being that it is arguably one of the most iconic tracks ever recorded.
Souls Of Mischief “93 /Til Infinity”
30 years later, the four-piece from East Oakland is still going strong and all set to celebrate the record that shot them into space. 2023 is a colossal milestone for Bay Area rap culture and Souls of Mischief have big plans to honor its legacy on their turf and beyond. Beginning next month, they will kickstart the 93 ’Til Infinity 30th anniversary world tour.
Here’s the thing — this isn’t just any regular tour; it’s a massive, five-and-a-half-month trek spanning North America and Europe. Forever loyal to the number that gave them their start, the group will perform a total of 93 dates (!) starting in early March and wrap things up halfway into September. If you haven’t already realized, that isn’t normal … at all.
Their debut album turns 30 next week on February 13, and Souls of Mischief will play their first show of the year in Los Angeles two weeks later. Starting with a March 1 show in the United Kingdom, the tour’s European leg will run into early April and include performances in London, Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris, among several other towns and cities. As of now, the group is scheduled to play 40 shows across the pond. They will then return to their native continent and perform the remainder of the dates in Canada and the United States, starting in Northern California. If everything goes as planned, the NorCal legends will finally call it a day in Colorado on September 17.
The hip-hop community is rooting for Phesto, Tajai, Opio, and A-Plus to pull this off and revive an interest in the groundbreaking artistry that brought the culture to where it is today. Souls of Mischief, alongside Bay Area legends DJ Tourē, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Pep Love, Casual and Domino, formed Hieroglyphics in the early 90s. The collective still operates as a unit to this day, so the upcoming tour is a win for everyone who has been involved since day one. Additionally, the 93 ’Til Infinity 30th anniversary world tour will feature Breakbeat Lou and The Architect in supporting roles.
