RMR’s Shambhala 2018 music festival recap is here. The festival concluded on Sunday and we experienced so many unforgettable moments that a recap is firmly in order. RMR had the immense pleasure of being invited out to the one-of-a-kind experience on the ranch out in Salmo, Canada Friday night through Sunday afternoon. This place is straight out of Neverland, and the trippy, gooey drum-and-bass blasting while lasers fill up the night sky truly whisks you away. The Staff
First and foremost, we want to thank the staff. This group of people was endlessly friendly at any juncture for us throughout Shambhala 2018. From checking us in to even checking on us while attending the festival. That really stuck out to us, as throughout the festival we saw staff walking around checking on any attendee that seemed in need of any assistance or help.
Our on-site PR contact also offered us immense hospitality. The press-mixer he helped facilitate was a wonderful networking opportunity for us and the other media guests, plus the spread of food was delicious and essentially gourmet.
The Festival Grounds
Talk about taking a page out of any child’s dream world. This festival is tucked in the heart of an enormous wooded valley in Canada and decked out like the Lost Boys’ hideout in the movie Hook. Giant wooden structures jut out from the forest while colorful lights and lasers, making you feel like you’re in Alice In Wonderland. The intricacy of each stage at the festival highlighted that this was the 21st celebration of Shambhala.
Each of the six stages were wildly unique, elaborate, and special. You rarely see this much effort put into the construction of stages (save maybe EDC or Burning Man,) and it adds to the mystique of this forested wonderland tenfold. The Grove, The Village, and Fractal Forest had some of the craziest (and biggest) spots to vibe out in. Our journey went well into the night, tapering off as the sun rose again at 5 am.The Music
Although we didn’t get the opportunity to stay for the bigger headliners on Sunday, we grooved hardcore to so many talented artists. The bass was almost always heavy, the style of music varied widely from acid trip-hop, to down-tempo trap booms and baps. Some of the performances that blew us away were from Space Jesus, Justin Martin, Whipped Cream, Goopsteppa, Boogie T, and Roska.
Shambhala’s 2018 Festival was truly an experience we’ll never forget. Catch us there next year for the whole four days! Stay tuned for more content from our time spent at this magical place. When you enter the festival a sign reads: “welcome home,” and after this weekend, we’re already homesick.
