LexScope views his life through a cinematic lens. He’s always been fascinated by film, and nowadays it’s hard to run into him without a camera in his hands. It was only fitting to hear that Lex started his own mini monthly film festival. Every second Tuesday of the month, LexScope gathers the community for Scope Screenings at the Here-After theater, located in the Belltown neighborhood of Seattle within the Crocodile venue compound. Showings include narrative short films, music videos, and a variety of high-quality short-form content from independent filmmakers within the community.

Scope Screenings was started for filmmakers, by filmmakers. The goal of the event being to provide a safe and inclusive space for artists and like-minded individuals to connect and explore ideas in real life. The night starts out at 6pm. The first hour consists of a laid-back lounge-type atmosphere that allows industry professionals, filmmakers, photographers, musicians, and community members to network with each other.
At 7pm the screening starts, and unlike your typical theater experience, these films come with commentary. LexScope puts an emphasis on the people behind the scenes, giving exposure to the filmmakers and allowing people to speak a bit about their art. The often overlooked, independent creatives have the opportunity to showcase their art with real people in their community who can interact and show appreciation in the moment.

Personally, when comparing the quality of videos coming from the Pacific Northwest to those coming from Hollywood and big corporate budgets, the PNW is putting out some outstanding work. Along with LexScope, there are some brilliant directors who have made their mark in the area. It’s about time that they got their shine.
In a brilliant moment of advertising for Scope Screenings, Lex flipped the AMC commercial starring Nicole Kidman that went viral earlier this year. The LexScope version captures the essence of the original and invokes the same feeling intended by AMC. However, knowing that the independent artists, directors, and musicians are getting the spotlight at Scope Screenings, I think the video hits a little harder.
