Many fans refer to RXK Nephew as one of the greatest rappers of all time. But before you start pulling numbers, you really have to dig deeper than the mainstream rap you hear today. Nephew’s rapping comes off as uncanny. His style of rap has no attachment to any particular sound.
He goes into the booth, and whatever he is thinking at that moment will be transformed physically in the studio. Not only this, but he can spit bars on any type of track. Some beats may be drill-influenced, others trap, and even metal-rap comes into the scene here and there. This is why people who follow his music will contest that he is the rawest rapper to this day in hip-hop.
Nephew’s Workflow
The Rochester, New York native took the limelight in 2020 and has been nonstop ever since. In 2021 alone, he released over 400 songs and continues this workflow up to today. He has also dropped more than 150 music videos! You can find much of his work on Spotify and other streaming services, but you’re really missing out if you don’t follow his YouTube. He posts almost every single day!
Nephew will take you through a wide range of emotions. One line could make you want to wild out, but others make you feel Nephew’s seriousness.
Some just downright make you laugh. One of the lines in “I Love My Jacket” goes, “Say she was down put her life on the line/Unc in the cut with a pipe gettin’ high.” But a few seconds later, he goes into his alcohol use, but with a comedic twist: “Might put Henny in my Cap’n Crunch/Might fry my chicken with some Henny.”
Many of his songs have these twists and turns because of the raw insight into his mind. There is no plan, it is merely the vibe he feels when the microphone turns on.
Realness Comes Raw
RXK Nephew is best known for his nearly 10 minute track “American TTerrorist” where he really let his thoughts spill out on the beat. Within the track, Nephew’s imagination and scatter-brained thought process shine through. He bounces around from topics on his doubts and questions about religion, to the COVID-19 vaccine, even to his conspiracies about sacrifices in the rap game. Although many of these viewpoints are products of RXK Nephew’s purest, unfiltered thought patterns, it captivates his audience for that very reason.
He’s also known for his social media presence, similar to rapper Lil B, aka “Based God”, posting a mix of personal life, music, and a slew of memes on his feed. He takes a lot of influence from Lil B in his unique rapping style. You have to be quick to follow, though. His pages are usually gone or deleted shortly.
