Nothing says getting into the Halloween spirit more than hyping up RL Grime’s yearly Halloween mix series. It’s been over a decade since he started this bass-heavy series and it impresses every year. With previous years having live events and crazy collaborations, “Halloween XII” drops right after RL Grime’s recent PLAY LP, released on his own label, Sable Valley. Surprisingly, to some, this mix doesn’t include much of that project, only including a handful that have been remixed, edited, and mashed up throughout the mix.
RL Grime’s Introduction To The Unreleased
Previous editions of Halloween mixes were introduced by notable names. These include T-Pain on the Twilight Zone inspired IX intro, Neil deGrasse Tyson on X, DJ Diesel on VII, and RL Stine on II. This year’s entry has RL Grime himself on the mic, introducing the mix himself in a rare occurrence.
This mix is already insane every year for bass-heads, but the IDs and mashups are where it can truly shine. I counted at least thirteen unreleased IDs in this mix, with another possible nine hanging around as remixes, bootlegs, and edits. Unreleased tracks from Deadcrow, Oliverse, and Juelz litter this packed lineup of tracks. Hearing the Travis Scott & RL Grime mashup, Hamdi’s bootleg of Sexyy Red’s Skeeyee, and Skrillex’s recent release, Badders, made this mix a memorable one.
If you like bass-heavy trap, old-school dubstep, or anything in-between, RL Grime’s “Halloween XII” has you covered. Check out the video link below to listen to this year’s full mix. What if you’re hearing about this mix series for the first time? We have a couple other Halloween mixes linked above for you! There’s twelve in total now, so have fun getting lost in every single one if you wish to progress through the years. Join us next year as we’ll eagerly await 2024’s entry, but for now, enjoy this year’s mix.
