Red Bull Sound Select is a monthly artist showcase in 18 major cities around the world. Lineups are curated by local music influencers and this month’s Seattle showcase was curated by Do206.com.
This wasn’t my first Sound Select event, but it was one of the more entertaining nights. When I walked in the doors at Chop Suey there was live painting in the bar. Perry Porter of local duo Sleep Steady was painting a portrait of rapper Pell. Perry and his partner in rhyme CidVishiz were hosts for the evening as well.
The Lineup
Providing the opening vibes was local electronic producer Dream Journal. It seemed he put the crowd into the perfect mindset for the night.
Up next was local experimental rapper DoNormaal. If you listen to local hip-hop, and don’t know who she is, shame on you. This girl performs always gives it 100%, plus her smile is infectious, making it really easy to get lost in her set.
The rapping continued with New Orleans native, Pell. It seemed as though his lyrics effortlessly flowed out of his mouth. With a finished portrait by Perry behind him his ambient beats kept the crowd in a dream.
Now I’m no EDM head, but the headliner Autograf? God damn! This Chicago trio is heavy on the house side, but like house music from the year 2050. I was sold when they busted out the keytar.
Do206 did an incredible job matching our local talent with the heavyweights. The best part though, it was only $3! When you RSVP with Red Bull attending the event cost only three bucks. Join the Sound Select club to stay up to date on upcoming shows.
