Coffee & Kush, Vol. 2 by California rapper Problem finds the artist in his zone, making the most of the time during quarantine. This release is a complete body of work that explores various soundscapes all while staying West Coast.
The West Coast is the birthplace to mainstream gangster rap but has also been home to hard-hitting “underground” music. Artists like the Soul Assassins crew, Murs, Living Legends, and countless others brought the sound to life. Problem embodies the best of both worlds on his new album Coffee & Kush, Vol. 2.
Matter of fact his whole career has been a blend of sounds that are the verge of your favorite songs on the radio mixed with records the indie heads can’t get enough of. Very few artists can navigate both worlds. One of the only artists that come to mind in that category is DJ Quik, who coincidently worked with Problem on their Rosecrans joint project.
Some of the more hard-hitting tracks that will likely take attention are “NOTHIN” with Jay Rock and Jack Harlow and “DON’T BE MAD AT ME” featuring Freddie Gibbs and Snoop Dogg. My favorite records were “LIFE LESSONS”, “YOU DON’T HAVE TO WAIT ON ME”, and “EASTER NIGHT.”
