PNW Rising: Whois_JG and More
Mastahkat “Avant”
Recorded at Ruby Room Recordings, Mastahkat brings a relaxed vibe to “Avant.” Everything from the soft spoken flow to the gentle sounding background vocals and instrumentals make the track incredibly soothing. Despite the song’s tender sound, this rapper’s lyricism still addresses dark themes such as corruption and oppression. The contrast as a whole works very well.
The I.C.O.N. (The International Champ Of Night) “What Love’s Like (feat. Saffaura)”
The Lynnwood rapper has collabed with songstress Saffaura for a romantic rap ballad on, you guessed it, what love’s like. The I.C.O.N‘s drops deep voiced bars that really complements Saffaura’s melodic vocals perfectly. Each artist provides their perspective on how beautiful it can be to fall passionately, and what’s a better song for today’s day of love than that? I’ll wait.
Whois_JG “Cuando Era Nosotros”
I know y’all have seen this Latin hip-hop artist from Wenatchee on our list before. What you may not have known is that Whois_JG makes his craft bilingual. Releasing his first song of the year just this week, Whois_JG is sticking with the romance theme that comes with today’s holiday. Whois_JG’s narrative consists of loving someone so hard and missing them even harder when they’re apart. That kind of emotion is understood beyond the barriers of language.
Prince Jahmahni “Till the end of time: A love Song Inspired By Her”
The PNW artists are really feeling the love this week! With samples of Alicia Keys’ “No One,” Prince Jahmahni gives a real sweet message about finding the one. The devotion to love is palpable in both the song and the music video where you see the kind of date night that happens when you’re spending it with your best friend. We all know that’s the best kind of love.
YungDion “Hopeless Romantic”
Fresh from Seattle, “Hopeless Romantic” by YungDion goes hard about wearing his heart on his sleeve even for those that may not deserve it. He speaks the truth on that hardest part on being down bad for love, which is knowing when to give it to the right person. If you like this banger, you’re bound to enjoy the rest of the melodic rapper’s EP, Confessions of a Hopeless Romantic.
Antagonist “I’m Sorry for my Actions in Advance”
In the ninth track from their latest album, Garden of Fear, Antagonist goes in on being real about putting the hustle above all else with scenes from Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby. While their message might hurt some along the way, it essentially is what it is at this point. Much like the rest of their work, this duo doesn’t sugar coat shit. Having said that, it’s got that dark rap with heavy intensity. If you’re into sound reminiscent to $UICIDEBOY$, you’ll definitely dig Antagonist.
Samurai Del & Megan Cannon “Hotel Breakfast”
This Seattle DJ also known as Alex Lawrence has teamed up with Megan Cannon to make such a damn bop that you can easily imagine it making any music festival set or rave lit as hell. “Hotel Breakfast” is a synthy pop anthem that is a total mood lifter. It has the type of light and bubbly beats that you can play and feel instantaneously uplifted and ready to take on anything.
Chelle “Angel”
Without a doubt, Chelle’s got the makings of a total pop princess that should’ve been on the pop charts, like, yesterday. “Angel” is sensual and passionate with bassy beats that are absolutely infectious. The entire track as a whole is something you’ll have a hard time not grooving too and using it on your next party or going out playlist.
D Flight Wavvy “$PORT MODE”
This next Wenatchee native just dropped his latest on Soundcloud that’s pretty much a completely different take than the last couple songs to say the least. With an easy going beat, D Flight Wavvy gets straight to the point with his bars. He’s got his mind on his money, and that’ll always stay a priority.
