Even in today’s over-saturated market, albums that take you on a journey from start to finish are few and far between. Pressing play on Bobby Ro$$ feels like you just hopped in a car and took off on a road trip through the scenery featured in one of Perry Porter’s paintings. “Drivin’ two miles so everybody sees you.”
Perry uses this hyphy, “Feelin’ Myself,” flow that’s shrouded in a delicate almost feminine energy. He gives us an equal balance of hard and soft allowing you to tap into a variety of emotions. His cadence has a smooth swagger to it which changes and blends like a chameleon into each different producer’s aural landscape.
“My self-love shouldn’t bother others
Transparent like these watercolors
Trying to learn to be an honest lover
Transparent like these watercolors.”
“Watercolor” -Perry Porter
The entire project has an introspective, “be the best you,” kind of vibe. A motto which Bob Ross preached to us through the Joy of Painting. As Bobby Ro$$ came to a profound close, I felt myself mouth the word, “wow,” as I started to contemplate my recent mental state and how I can retake control of it.
