A few weeks back, Party Thieves played one of the rowdiest sets we’ve ever witnessed at Foundation Nightclub. Thanks to his management and the people over at USC Events, Respect My Region got the opportunity to ask him a few questions during his stop on the Grand Theft Army World Tour.
RMR Interviews Party Thieves
Q: Party Thieves.. that’s a very unique name. How’d you come about it?
PT: It’s funny you ask. To be very honest, I was going back and forth with a few names. The first name I came up with was Grandtheft, but then realized that he was already a producer, so that name was taken. I kept playing around with Theft and came up with Party Thieves. Now we have a huge Theft Army!
Q: What about being on the road keeps you going? What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about touring?
PT: I love traveling to new cities, playing for my fans, and testing out all new music. There is a crazy rush you get when playing in front of a massive crowd of fans that came to see you. My most favorite thing about touring is for sure meeting my fans in each city and my least favorite thing about touring is lack of sleep. I try my best to have a good routine but the nights are long haha.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your regular life?
PT: I love relaxing, producing, and just having me time when I am not touring. I know that sounds basic but anyone who tours will have to agree.
Q: What’s easier, making music at home or on the road? What do you look to for inspiration?
PT: Definitely at home. I love clearing my head, unwinding, and just let nature take its course for my inspiration. Whether its a conversation I have with my buddies, a TV show I am watching, or even situations that occur outside.
Q: Do you feel like touring changes or influences your sound?
PT: I would have to say both. Changes or influences to me is one in the same. Change can be good, don’t forget that.
Q: Where is your favorite place to play? Why is it so special?
PT: Definitely Australia. Ever since I first played there back in 2015, the country has been so welcoming. I now have my own residency at The Met – Brisbane and Pacha – Sydney. My girlfriend is also from Sydney so if I didn’t say Australia I may get in trouble.
Q: What do you enjoy about playing in the Pacific North West?
PT: I have a lot of family here. My best friend James is also stationed out here so its nice coming back to see him.
Q: Do you do anything special before playing a show? Any requests you have for playing a show?
PT: Hmm, nothing too crazy. Touring can get pretty crazy so once I get to a new city, if I know someone there I will check out the city and grab a good dinner, but if not I usually will just lay low in my hotel room, work on my set, and get ready for the night.
Do not come to one of my shows and expect not to sweat. It is high energy the entire time.
Q: What do you enjoy playing better? a club, show, or festival set..
PT: I love the energy of each set. There is definitely something special with a club show filled with 500+ of your diehard fans signing, moshing, going nuts to your music. This is the main reason I created the Max Capacity Tour which hit 4 cities during the month of February. I wanted to give back to my fans and throw free shows to all my diehards.
Q: What advice do you have for new artists trying to figure it out? Anything specific you can really recommend?
PT: Whether an artist (is) trying to make it or a student trying to graduate college, stick with it, be persistent, want it more than the next person. One thing, don’t stop being yourself throughout the process and don’t forget to enjoy yourself.
