OG Mambo was born in Zimbabwe but raised in Seattle, Washington. “Mambo” in the Shona language means king or God. It is how you address an elder or a boss. Mambo’s family history suggests that both of his parents have royal ties in Zimbabwe. Always keeping this in mind, he has carried that legacy into his everyday life and brand as an artist.
Living up to this name, Mambo is seen as a visionary and leader as he looks to grasp two completely different cultures and pick up steam nationwide. Also a student of the game, Mambo likes to study the history and past greats of hip-hop. He’s formed a career plan that is globally strategic and impactful.
OG Mambo has been compared to legends such as Snoop Dogg, Curren$y, Lil Wayne, and E-40. He possesses elements of that Bay Area sound mixed with some laidback vibes and clever wordplay.
“96′ Sonics” by OG Mambo
His latest release “96′ Sonics” is a city anthem that can get any function popping. I saw him perform this track live at Fremont Fridays earlier in the summer and it had the whole place jumping. His high energy on stage and comfortability talking to the crowd made him the perfect host for Fremont Fridays. This also fuels his performances as he works to reach the pinnacle of the global hip-hop world.
OG Mambo Has Released Several EPs This Year
Mambo has also released several EPs in 2021 such as Taste Test EP: Wine&Dine, Fresh & Wavvy, and Honest Vibrations. My favorite of the three EPs is Honest Vibrations. Each track reminds me a bit of those early 2000s vibes mixed with some of Mambo’s own experimentation with different tones and production. Check out the EP below and let us know what you think in the comments!
