Bourbon Street has officially welcomed its first cannabis dispensary. NOLA Cannabis Company opened its new flagship location at 433 Bourbon Street in New Orleans on September 9, becoming the first legal cannabis dispensary to operate in the historic French Quarter.
The opening puts therapeutic cannabis directly in one of New Orleans’ busiest tourism districts while introducing a significantly different concept from the bars, restaurants, clubs, and entertainment businesses traditionally associated with Bourbon Street. The new location spans more than 16,000 square feet across three stories, with the company combining cannabis retail, patient services, education, art, and interactive experiences inside the flagship.

Inside NOLA Cannabis On Bourbon Street
The three floors of the new dispensary have been designed around different parts of the patient experience. The first floor serves as the primary retail area, with cannabis products and accessories, ordering kiosks, staff assistance, and an express pickup area for customers who order ahead.
Upstairs, NOLA Cannabis has created a more education focused environment where patients can receive one on one assistance and learn more about therapeutic cannabis products.
The second floor also includes a curated flower bar featuring selected strains and aroma jars designed to help patients better understand different cannabis options. One of the biggest additions is access for people who do not already have a therapeutic cannabis recommendation. Eligible adults can connect with an independent authorized clinician through the process available at the location.
For tourists visiting New Orleans, that accessibility could make the Bourbon Street location particularly notable.
Cannabis Access Reaches The French Quarter
The dispensary’s location places legal cannabis access directly inside a neighborhood visited by millions of people from around the world. That includes travelers coming from places where cannabis laws can look considerably different.
In an interview with WVUE, Canadian visitor Elizabeth Sharma explained that she and her husband were happy to discover the location while visiting New Orleans. Her husband uses medical cannabis, and she said traveling can become difficult when they enter areas where access is unavailable.
The Bourbon Street opening gives qualifying visitors another potential option while traveling, while also serving patients living throughout New Orleans. NOLA Cannabis already operates multiple dispensaries throughout the metropolitan area, including locations serving the Lower Garden District, Uptown, Kenner, Metairie, and the West Bank.
A New Addition To Bourbon Street
Bringing a cannabis dispensary into the French Quarter also adds another layer to the larger conversation surrounding legal cannabis in New Orleans.
Some residents and visitors remain concerned about cannabis use and its potential impact on quality of life in an already busy entertainment district. Others see regulated dispensaries as a safer alternative to purchasing cannabis through unregulated sources. French Quarter resident Scotty Booker told WVUE that he supports the new business and hopes legal access can reduce the risks associated with people purchasing products from sellers they don’t know.
For NOLA Cannabis, education appears to be an important part of how the company intends to operate within that environment. Co-owner Captain Lee Jackson has said the goal is to improve understanding and acceptance surrounding cannabis while continuing to emphasize safety and regulatory standards.
The scale of the Bourbon Street flagship reflects that approach. Instead of operating strictly as a place to purchase products, the three-story location gives the company room to incorporate education and patient assistance into the retail experience. With the opening now official, one of America’s most recognizable entertainment streets has added legal therapeutic cannabis to its growing list of attractions and businesses.
