2017 took one of rock and roll’s greatest musicians from us. Chris Cornell is remembered by family and friends as the lead singer of Soundgarden and one of the key members of Temple of the Dog. He passed away on the 18th of May in his Detroit hotel room shortly after performing in the same city.
As a tribute to him, and what he stands for, “The Promise” was released on Chris Cornell’s Youtube channel. In the video we see images of refugees fleeing from danger and destruction, leaving behind what is left of their home. This song is the main feature from the movie that shares the same title. “The Promise” is about a unique love triangle in the war-torn country of Armenia.

As The Promise producer Eric Esrailian said, “Chris had the idea of, ‘How can we bridge the video … with fear-inducing images of what people have to deal with as well as messages and images of hope and perseverance and resilience and survival,’ which is what the song is also about.” The music video captures that idea Chris had. Esrailian and company had kept their promise to Cornell to release it on World Refugee Day (June 20th).

Extra: “Chris Cornell and Soundgarden was one of the key bands that got me into music. He was one of the first grunge pioneers, along with Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, and Nirvana.
