Nas is for the people and Wu-Tang is for the children — together, they have the world on their side. When both titans set out on their iconic NY State of Mind tour last year, hip-hop heads across the United States had the pleasure of having New York’s finest bring the ruckus to their cities and get down with it. To say the Nas & Wu-Tang Clan tour was a success would be an understatement, with both forces still going strong three decades into their prolific careers.
Nas & Wu-Tang Clan: A NY State of Mind
Nas’s career has enjoyed a renaissance, wherein he has released album after album with West Coast producer Hit-Boy of the highest quality. At 49, one of the most revered rappers of all time is still in the conversation for dopest MC in the game today, and that’s no trivial matter. In the last five years, he has released five studio albums, received three Grammy nominations, and won Best Rap Album for King’s Disease in 2021. After his triumphant homecoming show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden last week, it’ll be a while before someone questions his longevity.
Wu-Tang Clan, on the other hand, is forever — that much has been established. Even though we’re approaching a decade since the Staten Island collective put out an official studio record, they remain just as important to the culture as they did when they started out. They continue to spread the good word through solo albums, features, and performances, so you won’t see the Wu-Tang symbol disappear anytime soon; look close enough and you’ll find it scattered among the civilian population.
The Nas & Wu-Tang Clan alliance is beyond powerful not only to hip-hop or even the broader category of music, but to the culture of the modern world, and they’re well aware of it. They have just announced that the NY State of Mind tour will expand into 2023 with performances scheduled to take place in North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Tickets will be available starting today, with general on-sale set to begin on March 3. You can purchase them here.
