Mavi Will Release Powerful Introspective Album Titled “Shadow Box” on August 9th

After the release of his sophomore album “Laughing so Hard, it Hurts” Mavi shares his experiences of dealing with self doubt, abuse, and heartbreak.

“How to Make Art All Over Again” – Mavi

Mavi has made a fan base off of his beautiful bare bone production and tantalizing wordplay. He also constantly delivers introspective thoughtful bars that many people can feel seen and connect to.

After his sophomore album Mavi shares that he fell into a depression. Mavi stated he completely lost his love for music and lost himself. He even began to turn to alcohol and drugs to help cope with his emotions. These unhealthy habits and mindset led him into darkness, but he eventually relearned how to create.

I was really sad about the last album. I didn’t really know how to get back into making stuff into the way I like, felt really hopeless about it.”

He released a single for the album called “i’m so tired” which is a very heart wrenching look into his life over the past two years. The song opens up with “Today my grandmother turn eighty. And I’m on three Percocets, I ain’t even ate yet”.

The whole rest of the song is a self loathing reflection at his life to this point and how he feels pointless. The introspectiveness is nothing new from Mavi, but to this takes it to a whole new level. The pain you can hear in rapper’s voice on the track is something that is quite noticeable and gives fans an inside look on what the new album could look like.

Finding Love in Art Again

Many people lose sight and the love for what they have, even artists. Burnout and feeling like everything you have worked for was futile is something that unites us all at some point. But finding ways to get back to what you love and creativity is what is ultimately important.

The North Carolina shared that he found art and organization hold power, he gave credit to a book called “The Black Experience in Design” which led him to the epiphany “the ability to determine the order of things, the way things are supposed to be… that’s power“.

This album has been very long awaited and definitely be something music and Hip-Hop fans would want to hear.
