We’ll be featuring The Marshall Law Band at our Hoopfest Kick-off at The Bartlett in Spokane June 29th is the Marshall Law Band. MLB has introspective, and poetic lyricism over funky, soulful live instrumentation. Frontman and creator of Culture Fest, Marshall Hugh, has some crazy connections that have me wondering what hotness he’ll procure to follow up the debut.
These dudes have all the workings to see success in the rising hip-hop+live band scene in Seattle, so you should definitely tune-in and cop some tickets.
From a Kube 93 internship to string-pulling his way into the Purple Door to work with Seth McDonald on some of his first professional recordings, Marshall Hugh is making moves. Realizing his moves needed to be even bigger, he linked with a five-piece band and produced their debut single, “Head Nod,” with Seth at Robert Lang Studios this year.
We sat down and had a chat with Marshall about the project, his creation of Culture Fest, and the change from solo-artist to the front man. Read that HERE.
Marshall highlighted that the band’s debut single, “Head Nod,” is about his “family’s migration out of slavery, then going to Los Angeles, and now being in the Pacific Northwest. Trying to actualize that American Dream, that piece of the American pie that the slaves kind of thought was capable of achieving after slavery, while still dealing with the pain and scars that come with generations of oppression.”
He goes on to say
“You hear it, but it doesn’t blare in your head too much where you’re like, “Damn, this is heavy cuz.” But once you’re hip to it, you hear the little things that I threw in there. The music really mellows out the message I feel like, it doesn’t dilute it but allows it to be soluble for people to easily digest.”
Have a listen below and see what you think of this smooth cut.
Marshall also sat down recently with the homies over at TownTv to chop it up, scope that SoundCloud session HERE.
Marshall Law Band will be playing in several areas this summer, have a gander at some of these dates below if you can’t make it to Hoopfest!
