Word Around the Sound is… LROC has an exciting new EP that could be considered required listening off the title alone, Mandatory Obligations. The project was released exclusively on the EVEN platform– a new streaming service that is revolutionizing the way artists share and profit off of their music. The platform allows artists to connect with their fans by offering their music, along with other exclusive content and experiences, at a “pay what you want” price tag.
For this release, LROC has multiple payment tiers that allow you to obtain access to the EP, as well as some interviews and performances depending on how much you pay. The dope thing about supporting artists on EVEN is that you as the consumer get instant access to unreleased music and content which you can stream directly from the platform, meanwhile, the artist gets paid daily and receives 80% of the proceeds.

If you’re an independent artist, I can’t stress enough how important utilizing the community driven ecosystem of a platform like EVEN can be for your revenue. As a fan, this platform is one of the best to show appreciation directly to the artists you love.
Now, let’s discuss why you should support LROC and his new release, Mandatory Obligations. This is easily one of his most intimate and relatable releases yet. Throughout the project, the soulful beats from Rob Nollan provide the perfect stage for LROC to let his verses play out on. As if you’re the only one in the audience, he takes you on a journey from start to finish pulling back the curtain on some of his required commitments in life. Lyrically, this is seemingly one of LROC’s most effortless, yet most impactful bodies of work to date and is a must to add to your collection.

Kenshi Killzzz – “What’s the News?” Music Video
Emotive songstress Kenshi Killzzz just released the contemplative track “What’s the News.” The track takes on a lo-fi tone with production from Evan George that allows Kenshi’s vocals to float along the strolling beat. The release comes with a super clean music video directed by Joshua Bates that gives more insight into who Kenshi Killzzz is as an artist as she blends elements of her heritage with modern sounds and aesthetics.
Perry Porter, Dave B. & Quise.Wav – “Most High”
Roll up and spark a fatty while you listen to Perry Porter’s latest release “Most High” featuring Dave B. and production from Quise.Wav. The song is short lived and plays out quickly, but lingers in your ears like smoke hangs in the air. The funky beat gives you something to two-step to while both Perry and Dave absolutely demolish their verses.
Dave B. – “SHOTS”
Speaking of Dave B., he recently released his own track titled “SHOTS” that will easily be remembered as part of the soundtrack to the 2024 summer season. I can hear the growth in his vocal abilities with this being one of his best performances to date. He really has this retro-futuristic vibe to his music that is simultaneously a throwback to the past, as well as an innovative sound that is truly ahead of its time.
Daizha – “One Last”
Daizha is an angelic R&B artist whose talent is way beyond her years. Lyrically, she can structure a song to keep you engaged from start to finish. Vocally, she can deliver notes that will send shivers down your spine. Collectively, she creates music that reaches down deep to pull your most vulnerable emotions to the forefront and allows you to experience them through the safety and comfort of her tone of voice. Her latest release, “One Last,” showcases these talents beautifully.
Blake Anthony – “Satellites”
Blake Anthony linked back up with previous collaborator Shaqdi, as well as Misha and Monma for the single, “Satellites.” As you step into their galactic universe, you are overcome with smooth, comforting tones from the production to the flows. Blake hotboxes a spaceship as he drops gems throughout the song, kicking his feet up and letting it flow because you never know which way it will go. Tap in with these artists as each of them is as prolific as the rest.
Cool Nutz – “What I’m About ‘24”
Even though Cool Nutz has established his name in hip-hop, in his most recent single, “What I’m About ‘24,” he makes it known that the grind is still very real. Reviving the concept from the iconic song off of his debut album, Harsh Game for the People, Cool Nutz updates us on what his life is like nowadays; late nights, early mornings, and consistently stacking his numbers up. Featuring a catchy hook sung by Toni Hill and a bouncy beat produced by Tope, this fresh rendition of “What I’m About” reminds us all why Cool Nutz is still relevant almost 30 years later.
Talaya. – “Need Me a Me”
Talaya is an old R&B soul in a young artist’s body. She’s able to take all of the energy and emotions in her environment and synthesize it into melodies that transcend the physical listening experience to create a moment of emotional reflection. Her latest release, “Need Me a Me” champions for self-care and the strength in showing up for yourself. This comes after she released the title track of her forthcoming album, clear.
Thursday, June 20: Talaya. will be celebrating the release of her album clear. with a headlining show at Madame Lou’s with Charles Zaid and Rell Be Free accompanying her on stage. Tickets are $20 in advance for those 21 and up.
KOTH & The Flavr Blue – Relick
In an incredible collaboration, KOTH linked up with Parker Joe and Lace Cadence of The Flavr Blue to release a timeless EP titled Relick. The throwback vibes emanate from the cover art which features the Elephant Super Car Wash logo emblazoned into an encrusted gold chain. KOTH brings an effortless flow dripping in swagger to the table as he skates over the soothing, flavorful beats.
The three track EP will take you into a different atmosphere where the rhymes are heavy, and the production is light and effervescent. I heard a rumor that if you head to a lush, grassy field on a sunny day and run through Relick a few times while watching the clouds drift across the sky that you’ll see your entire future… It may just be a rumor, but you won’t know until you try.
