On Tuesday February 14th, iconic fashion brand Louis Vuitton confirmed Pharrell Williams being named as Men’s Creative Director. Many people know Pharrell from the different avenues he’s pursued throughout his music career, becoming a well-respected producer who has 13 Grammys and two academy awards. Williams has established himself as one of the most talented humans in the world of music, art, and fashion.
Louis Vuitton CEO, Pietro Beccari, is an admirer of the work Pharrell has accomplished over the last 20 years. Beccari believes Williams can lead them towards a “new and very exciting chapter.”
Williams revealed his new role on Instagram with a picture of himself wrapped in a Louis Vuitton blanket.
Many followers reacted to the news by responding with fire emojis or handclaps and praised the announcement. Louis Vuitton also announced William’s first collection will be revealed in June during the men’s fashion week in Paris.
In terms of cultural impact, Pharrell formed the legendary hip-hop and R&B production duo the Neptunes in the early 1990s. His most well-known hits to date consist of “Drop it Like it’s Hot” and “Happy.” As a writer, “Sing” by Ed Sheeran and “Pink + White” by Frank Ocean, were both written by Williams.
The legend of Pharrell Williams continues as he is also known for his clothing lines Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream. BBC Ice Cream has been one of the prominent influences on streetwear, fashion, and culture since its founding in 2003. The brand opened its first flagship in New York City’s Soho neighborhood in November of 2007.
Pharrell has previously collaborated with Louis Vuitton in 2004 and 2008 on sunglasses and jewelry.
