Soon after the release of Multi-Platinum single “Old Town Road” in 2019, Lil Nas X started working on his first album. After months of teasing, Lil Nas X is finally welcoming his long-awaited “little bundle of joy,” MONTERO into the world.
How Many Music Genres Can MONTERO Fit?
The new album boasts 15 songs where Lil Nas X leaps across genres in his signature manner. Perhaps relying on the success of his breakout single “Old Town Road,” well-remembered for its mixed styles. With this project, the artist again hits a sweet spot among the variety of music genres, this time by cleverly arranging them into one album.

Starting with his TikTok viral pop single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” then following with the dynamic trap-hit, “Industry Baby,” song for song, the album continues to surprise. Soon, it dips into speedy pop-punk rhythms of “Lost in Citadel” and moves further with the howling guitar solo in “Life After Salem,” thus taking us back to the 70s. The album closes with “Am I Dreaming?” ballad collaboration featuring Miley Cyrus.
By the way, Miley is far from the only artist who appeared on the album. The list of star collaborations is also quite diverse. ‘Montero’ features appearances of Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Jack Harlow, and Elton John.
Though, the list of featured celebrities is not the only thing the album can boast of. This project was also accompanied with controversial news about the artist’s “pregnancy” and its complete surveillance monitoring on social media.
The Baby Montero
Lil Nas X announced his pregnancy earlier this month in anticipation of his long-awaited debut album. Recently, the pregnant top-star has caused a stir on social media when celebrating Montero’s baby shower. Lavishly decorated with balloon displays, cakes, muffins, and candies, the celebration promised to become a pleasant, long-lasting memory for its guests. Dressed up in a vibrantly colorful silk robe, Lil Nas X, proudly flaunting his baby bump, entered the event, where… no one showed up. However, among those who sent gifts, appeared names of Doja Cat, Jack Harlow, Elton John, and more, thus hinting at the collaborations on the album.
The next day, Lil Nas X took to social media to share the exciting news of his first baby birth with an explicit video depicting him on an obstetric bed. “It’s already GRAMMY-nominated,” the artist tremulously says, holding the newborn music album.
Newborn Music Album Checklist
The baby shower ceremony was only the cherry on top of a long and diligent preparation for the newborn. Starting with the SNL wardrobe malfunction, which can be considered symbolic now, following with the BET Awards performance’s closing kiss, the artist just set the starting point for his future striking appearances. Recently he tore up the audience in standing ovations by saying “Thank you to the gay agenda!” when accepting the MTV VMAs top prize.
Further, his controversy-driven music videos for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and “Industry Baby” made a lot of noise in the media. The controversy went so far that Lil Nas X had to respond to it on his Twitter account.
Finally, the day before the album release, he unveiled a series of billboards advertising the new album MONTERO around Los Angeles. Each billboard featured its unique theme and sent viewers to WelcomeToMontero.com to listen to the album.
