Weed just might replace alcohol someday. It sounds like an ambitious goal, but cannabis brands like LEVIA are making it a realistic one. The introduction of THC-infused beverages to the legal weed market makes it one of several consumption methods that perform well in public or smoke-free settings.
Maybe you can’t drink alcohol, or maybe you just don’t like to. On the other hand, maybe you don’t like to smoke or vape. Seltzers like those from LEVIA remedy all of these issues by snugly fitting into social drinking scenarios and providing an easy-to-measure cannabis dosing experience. Better yet, they also create a tincture for custom dosing.
Wondering if these seltzers live up to the hype? Look no further, as we took the time to examine both LEVIA products ourselves and testify to their effects. You can also check out the video below in which our CEO Mitch gives his take.
LEVIA Cannabis Infused Seltzer Review
As mentioned in our Massachusetts edibles survey, LEVIA seltzers are available in three primary flavors. Their Indica brew is Jam Berry, the Hybrid is Lemon Lime, and the Sativa is Raspberry Lime. This fall they are doing their first seasonal batch of Cranberry Lime seltzers, which are Hybrids as well.
Each can of LEVIA contains five milligrams (5mg) of THC, but there’s more to it than that. Before the THC activation process, LEVIA extracts the terpenes from their weed to reintroduce to the final product. Furthermore, their team uses unique nanotech in their emulsion process that accelerates the rate you metabolize the THC in the seltzer. The end result is an experience to behold.
We got our hands on the “Dream” Jam Berry Indica Seltzer by LEVIA while visiting Boston Cannabis Week last month. From the moment the can is cracked open, the seltzer does a remarkable job of maintaining carbonation. When poured into a cup, it’s completely clear in color.
Effects
We were told that LEVIA infused seltzer kicks in within 10-15 minutes, and this certainly proved to be true. What we found most remarkable about it was the THC buzz itself. The “high” is not identical to what most may be used to when smoking or vaping. In fact, our staff could almost liken it somewhat to the buzz a person gets from drinking an alcoholic beverage; that is, without any of the potential for a stomach ache.
The effect of the “Dream” Jam Berry seltzer from LEVIA is, in our accounts, distinct, soothing, and very manageable. Massachusetts cannabis regulations make it so edibles and beverages cannot contain more than 5mg of THC. Even so, this amount proves to be great for controlled, conscious cannabinoid dosing. As for the flavor, it is rather indistinguishable from soft seltzers, and the flavor itself does not overwhelm the drink, but presents delectable overtones.
After trying their seltzer, there’s no doubt in our mind that LEVIA has succeeded in creating a great option for non-alcohol drinkers and discreet stoners. Nonetheless, it is quite likely some reading this are looking for something a little stronger than five milligrams in a can. This brings us to the next product, which serves as something of an adaptation to the legal dosage limit.
LEVIA THC-Infused Water Soluble Tincture Review
Most cannabis tinctures you’ll see out on the market are infused with some sort of cooking oil. Thick, buoyant, and often-not-so water soluble, these products are great for meals and snacks, but less so for drinks. LEVIA addressed the demand of customers seeking higher potency drinks by reintroducing their emulsion tech into a more open-ended medium.
We’re basically looking at the same stuff that’s in a LEVIA seltzer, except 60 times the strength of one can within less than half the volume. The pure CO2 extract contains the natural terpene flavor of the weed and, as said above, dissolves into water and beverages impeccably. The dropper has dosing measurements printed on the side. To save you the math, 0.5ml of solution is equal to one seltzer’s worth (5mg), leaving sixty doses total in a bottle. In case it wasn’t obvious, don’t drink it straight.
We tested the LEVIA tincture a couple different ways. First, we introduced a hefty dose, around 20mg, into a single can of Sprite. Then, we tried adding 15mg to a can of LEVIA seltzer, totaling 20mg as well. We also tried it in a typical margarita recipe without tequila – a “mocktail,” if you will.
Effects and Flavor
While the tincture is indeed water soluble, there’s no denying its effects on a drink’s flavor. While the margarita was capable of mitigating the powerful punch of LEVIA’s terps, the Sprite found less success. The LEVIA seltzer, on the other hand, experienced a similar increase in bitterness, but it did not alter the overall flavor. It’s safe to advise the tincture fares best in sweeter/fruitier mixed drinks and smoothies of your own design.
These properties aren’t much to consider when you acknowledge the utility (and strength) of the tincture’s buzz. Activating within ten minutes, we found it to be as relaxing as it was engaging. Despite trying the Indica tincture out of three, this product presents us a head high that may seem to make the simplest tasks pleasant. The effects dissipated within the hour.
