Kid Culture is a musical beast. He’s been one since his early teens. Whether local Seattle music lovers know the name or not, they know the work. Today he slides in front of the boards with his new single “KEEP IT.”
Kid Culture is one of the true diamonds of the Pacific Northwest. I remember when this kid was like 12 or 13 under the name Lil D Rock making crazy beats for local artists like LROC. I remember watching footage from studio sessions like who the fuck is this little monster. That monster grew just a little more and was soon making slaps for household names like Justin Bieber and Cordae during his late teens and early 20s.
Now I hate pigeonholing any artist that is the new coming of “insert artist name here” or reimagination of vintage greats but let me keep it a buck. Kid Culture is an absolute beast of a producer that is also clearly an artist based on his efforts on the new solo track “KEEP IT.” Ye has no doubt become the flag bearer for the producer rapper and anyone playing with soul samples. On this new record from Culture, the producer is rapping over a synth-laden soul sample beat.
“KEEP IT” isn’t a Kanye West derivative but rather a record I think Ye would drool over. Although if he was on the record, I’d anticipate some porno bars and shock value. Whereas Kid Culture really takes his time to carefully craft melodies and flowers while discussing the positives of breaking off of a relationship with a former fling.
