Exclusive Interview With Kevin Courtois

*This interview was edited for clarity*

RMR: How did you first get into making music? And at what age?

KC: My dad worked in the industry and from a young age I would sit in recording sessions watching the whole process unfold. I started producing with my cousin at the age of 13, and would play around with my dad’s turntables in the garage.

RMR: Who and what inspired you? Was it someone around you that was into music?

KC: My father is a producer/ DJ, but my parents never pressured me into music, actually they wanted me to finish school, but by the time I was 16 I was working full time Dj-ing and producing.

RMR: If you weren’t a music artist, what do you think your profession would be?

KC: That is a tough question! I have been doing this my whole life and it was the most obvious career choice. I love food, whenever I am home I cook. Maybe restoration?

RMR: What is your personal favorite song that you’ve made?

KC: Leon, which I produced and named after my son who was born last year.

RMR: If you aren’t making music, what can Kevin Courtois be found doing for fun?

KC: If I am not doing something career-related, or partying, I am probably changing my son’s diapers. When I get a chance, I love cooking and playing tennis. Mostly, I am changing diapers and playing with my son when I get a break.

RMR: I’m sure you’ve traveled quite a bit by now, what has been your favorite city to visit while traveling for music?

KC: Ibiza! I’m actually there right now.

RMR: Paris is one of my favorite cities I’ve ever been to, is there a possibility that you’ll end up living out there full-time sometime in the future?

KC: I would love to live in Paris for a few years. Nightlife is a lot of fun there, and of course, I miss the croissants and baguettes.

RMR: What has been a highlight in your career so far? Like a moment that has stuck out to you more than others?

KC: There are so many different moments I can pick out for different reasons. For me, overall, I’m at my highest when I perform, and my audience knows my songs and gets excited on the dancefloor.

RMR: If you could work with any artist in the world that you haven’t worked with yet, who would it be?

KC: I’d love to work with an artist that is in a different genre, and right now the artist I have in mind (and I am currently listening to) is J Balvin, he’s killing it right now.

RMR: What would you like to accomplish as a music artist with a personal audience and influence?

KC: So many things! I want to tell stories with my music that bring people closer to each other. The release of my music video for “Settle” exemplifies that. I felt that I tapped into the psyche of what many of us feel after a break-up. Storytelling in this way brings solace to many people going through a similar experience.

RMR: Do you have any advice for listeners and readers that are pursuing music as a career?

KC: Never give up. Even if you have all the talent in the world in this industry everything takes time.

RMR: What could we expect from Kevin Courtois in the next several months or year to come?

KC: I have a lot of projects coming I’m very excited about. I have a song with Lexy Panterra coming out soon and another with Ray Dalton from the song (Can’t hold Us by Macklemore) I just released a remix of Rebecca and Fiona ‘Need You’ and I have another remix in the works for Conor Matthews –‘Tuxedo Camouflage’.
Can’t wait to share all those projects to the world.

RMR: Last question here, when could we expect a visit from you to Seattle, Washington!?

KC: Hopefully this year!
