A few weeks ago, Hip-Hop was declared the most popular music genre in the United States for the first time EVER thanks to the acknowledgement of streaming numbers. So what happens when the reigning king of the most popular music genre comes to the city with the most fanatic people (yea, the 12’s are undisputed) in the country? Kendrick Lamar gets the “loyalty, loyalty, loyalty!” he deserves, as he turns Seattle into one big K-Dot fan club during his stay.
The Kung-Fu Kenny hysteria was kicked off Monday when Kendrick stopped by the Seahawks training camp to speak a few words, take a few flicks, and see his friend Bobby Wagner. After pictures of the 5’ 6” MC breaking huddles surrounded by Hawks were shared on the team’s social media pages along with him posing with everyone’s second dad, Pete Carroll, the word was out that the best rapper on the planet had officially arrived in our beloved city of Seattle.

Come day of the show, the buzz had only grown. I was out running errands, cars would wiz by me blaring cuts from his newest offering DAMN., all the way back to Section 80. Even my friends that weren’t going to the show were bumping his discography while they were in the home gym or hanging on the roof, out of respect for King Kendrick coming to show out for our area. Although, the most eye-opening moment to how much love the SeaTac area has for Kendrick was when I went to visit Seattle clothing staple Alive & Well, who graciously opened their doors to host The DAMN. Tour pop-up shop. I was hoping to go in, cop some merch real fast, and get home so I could leave for the Tacoma Dome, but a fat line was what I walked up on.
Alive & Well has hosted plenty of dope events and had some crazy sought-after collaboration drops, but I’ve never seen them have to deal with a line like that before…
Now that you have a little better idea of all the love that K-Dot was receiving from the city, check out some exclusive footage only available from Respect My Region, to see exactly why people are so crazy about him. We captured a few moments from Travis Scott’s set, which was an absolute rager, check those out to see how he got the packed out Tacoma Dome ready for the King.
WARNING: After seeing this footage you’ll feel obligated to never miss another Kendrick performance again.
