Karma exploded out of the Tri-Cities in 2017. Music fans across the state have begun to discover one of the Pacific Northwest’s next big stars. Today we have the privilege of premiering his latest project, the Sugar EP.
Karma first caught my ears/eyes when he was releasing webcam-filmed bedroom freestyles. The young afro wearing rapper clearly had an upper echelon level of skill when it came to rhyming. Over the past two years, I’ve watched that same dude grind out new skills in his bag. He’s added singing and melodic rapping to the tricks in his bag, plus now he’s building out full songs, and growing as a star within a team of talented individuals.
Justin Frick has created a visual element that is leagues above Karma’s bedroom freestyles, yet still incorporated the concept in their ‘Sunny Nights’ video. As_Is has provided a backdrop perfect for the young rapper. Beats that contain true hip-hop elements perfect for the roots of Karma’s sound but also feature a dash of “new wave.” An almost EDM style of chopping and bounce that helps propel the Tri-Cities native to higher ground. Mentioning the team, one could never look over Nobi, who has shared countless stages with Karma and provides an incredible dynamic when the two are trading bars on record.
Sugar finds Karma at a new place. The same kid with a more refined sound than ever. 2017 built a foundation from videos and live performances. 2018 is starting the accession off serious with the 6 track EP. Fans may have previously caught “In The Net’ and ‘Come Out Way,’ which were some of the top articles shared on our site last year. Sugar contains four other brand new records that fit together in cohesive fashion.
