It was just announced on Kanye West’s Twitter that we will see two new projects that will be released in June. The first project will be the follow-up to 2016’s The Life of Pablo that will drop June 1st, which will only have seven tracks total. While Kanye has explored a more minimalistic approach on his last two projects, he’s admitted that after the releasing the G.O.O.D Music backed “Champions” that he has worked on more lengthy tracks as well.
A week later on June 8th, we will see his second project which includes his collaboration with Kid Cudi. While the details of the project are still unknown, Kanye announced that the name of him and Kid Cudi’s group is Kids See Ghost. See below for Kanye West’s Twitter announcements:
Are We Really Getting A Kanye West and Kid Cudi Collab?
Throughout a good part of 2018, it has been known that Kanye West has been making new music out in Wisconsin with G.O.O.D Music artists and many guests outside of the label as well. It has been reported that Kid Cudi, Travis Scott, and even Drake have traveled out to visit Kanye where many speculate that they are working on new music. He has also been spotted with producer Rick Rubin who has been a frequent collaborator on his previous projects.
As almost every Kanye fan knows, we can’t absolutely plan on seeing new music from him until it actually drops. As shown with previous projects, every facet of the process from the album as a whole to the cover art is always overly thought through, edited, and remade until the last absolute moment. While it is a good possibility that a fair amount of the music that is made will never surface due to the rigorous and perfectionistic nature that Kanye has on all of his projects, it does back up that these release dates are realistic.
No matter if you are a fan of Kanye West or not, it is undeniable that he is one of the most influential and successful artists of the 21st century. With each album that he has dropped, they have always had a definitive sound that has created a sonic era within each project. This has both shaped how Kanye West has evolved over the years as well as influencing the ever-changing sound hip-hop. While we currently have no idea what these two projects will sound like, it is definitely exciting for what sonic landscape and era they will create.
