Detroit local Juls on Lankin returns with the standout album Gemini Moon. This project has been the perfect canvas for the multi-instrumental talent to show the extent of his precision not only as a rapper and vocalist, but as a producer and engineer. Relying on instrumentals constructed through his own rhythms and melodies, each track features rich texture and content.
Whether it’s the tastefully interspersed electric guitar in “Love Don’t Hurt“, or the intimate percussion in “Mirror Love” Gemini Moon delivers. Beautiful moments featuring a variety of instrumental samples all centered in similar enough elements to give the impression of a real project. As displayed in an earlier interview, Juls is between a classical musician and modern producer. While making use of the digital library, his sense of atmosphere is never lost.
Absolute Energy Comes Together With Passion In Gemini Moon
Tracks like “Navigating” instantly enthrall new listeners with a mixture of traditional rhythm and soulful expression. In contrast to rising wave of emo rappers, Juls truly bring an emotional scope to his music that can be felt. He’s not crying for attention, but a man standing his ground. Gemini Moon is the touching portrait of a man. “Hey Lil Pretty” is another track front-loaded with energy that is an instant winner. In addition to his emotional range, Juls shows off his language skills, and convincingly sells a Spanish song. “Th Fusion Dance” continues on the theme of world music. Hardly able to be contained by the label rap or hip hop, Juls is a musician.
Filled with standout and unique tracks, Gemini Moon is hard to sum up, but for those looking for a party playlist, here’s the tracks you can’t miss: Stolen Watch, Navigatin, Hey Lil Pretty, Th Fusion Dance, and Mirror Love. Check out RMR’s interview with Juls, and follow him on Instagram!
