Jacob Bellamy is an artist, producer, studio owner and more originating out of Tacoma, Washington. With a love for music, Bellamy has made it his mission to create uplifting tunes for future generations.
Coming up in a rough part of town, the artist has seen both spectra of life. Through his life experience, he molds stories in each song. Originally known as Jay Uno and J. Bellamy, Jacob Bellamy has taken on his real name. With this name change is a brand new fire that’s burning strong in the artist.
With his new album Jay Day releasing on June 25th, and multiple releases throughout 2019, Jay Bellamy has been making his moves. In order to tap in and see what’s going on with one of Tacoma’s emerging artists, I got on a call with Bellamy for an RMR exclusive interview.
RMR Exclusive Interview with Jacob Bellamy
(Interview edited for clarity)
RMR: How did you get started making music?
Jacob Bellamy: I actually got started young in the church. I would watch the pianist do his thing, and I learned a few instruments through my time there. That’s where I was introduced to some of my favorite musicians, Prince, Earth Wind and Fire, and definitely Rick James.
RMR: How did you transition into rap music?
Jacob Bellamy: Where I grew up, you’re surrounded by it. There’s a lot of street life, you know? My dad was a gambler and my mom was a churchgoer. It was a weird dynamic. When I would go outside I’d see some crazy shit. When I was young, I soaked in what was around me.
RMR: How do you think coming up in that environment influenced your music?
Jacob Bellamy: There’s a ton of expression in my music, pain, joy, happiness, and sadness. Before my last album “Rise of a King” both my parents passed away around that time. I’ve faced a lot of loss in my time, but I’ve learned to express myself through soaking in that emotion.
RMR: What’s your ultimate goal with your music?
Jacob Bellamy: My ultimate goal is to spread love and positivity. I love to see people together in one place. No matter what race or belief, I believe everyone should join together. We can all be in one place and make it dope, you know? I want to be able to do that.

RMR: So, tell me about your album Rise of a King
Jacob Bellamy: I worked on the album for about a year straight. The motivation behind it is that the foot is on our necks, and it’s time to get up. We keep falling to the same syndromes, and it’s time to wake up man! We’re all kings and queens, and need to be treating each other that way.
RMR: So what made you want to put out that positive energy?
Jacob Bellamy: Ultimately, with so much loss both my family and my hood got split up. When Nipsey passed away, there was a ton of positive energy that also came with it. With that, a lot of people got riled up as well. It’s like, how do we keep that peace going? How do we be resourceful with each other? Finding that out is way better than some “bang bang shoot em up” music.
RMR: What projects do you have coming up?
Jacob Bellamy: Totolua of Boss Clicc, J-Diggs from Thizz Entertainment and I just released a single that appeared #1 on Thizzler titled “Off Dat”. I also just did a song and video alongside Diamond Body called “She Pops It For Me”. My album Jay Day is releasing on June 25th, so definitely stay tapped in for that.
RMR: What events do you have going on?
Jacob Bellamy: I’m going to be going on tour at the end of June going into July. We’re going to be kicking it off in LA. Along with that, I have an album release party on the 25th for Jay Day. Going on tour at the end of June going into July. I’m also appearing in One Shot Film’s “City Limits” coming this summer.
