Dreamville rapper J.I.D has dropped a new single titled “151 Rum” ahead of his new project DiCaprio 2 that is expected to drop soon. The Alanta native is on the rise, due to opening for acts such as J. Cole and consistently dropping new music.
Before J.I.D even goes in on “151 Rum”, the instrumental itself grabs all the attention right away. Produced by Nice Rec & Christo, the filtered vocals that bend through various pitches is the pillar to the beat. The percussion on the lower end only compliments this main element heard throughout the entire song.
From start to finish, J.I.D showcases his creative lyrics paired with his hard hitting delivery. What’s unique about his approach to “151 Rum” is that he moves away from the normal form of having a certain amount of verses and choruses. Instead, the chorus is heard at the beginning and end, with a large verse heard in between. Because of this, the song has the feel of a freestyle.
One thing to note that makes his new song and upcoming project so special is that Mac Miller did almost all the post production of his entire project. Before Mac Miller’s tragic passing, J.I.D was planning on being an opener for his tour. While it’s overwhelmingly sad that this will never happen, Miller has left us with another piece of work.
