Cardi B’s album Invasion of Privacy has been ranked number 16 on “Rolling Stone’s 200 Greatest Hip-Hop albums of all-time” and now has the rap world freaking out. Cardi B believes that they put her that high up on the list as it would cause “a stir.” This isn’t the first time her work has been highly acclaimed. In fact, The Guardian, New York Post, Pitchfork, Billboard, and XXL have all complimented this album. Why Are Cardi B and the Rolling Stone article getting so much hate, if the album has received praise from the major establishment? Invasion of Privacy is no joke, but should it be ranked this high?

Success vs Rating
If we are talking about commercial success, this album is the most successful female-rap album of the last decade. It includes two number one singles and has been nominated for many accolades, including winning Best Hip-Hop/Rap Album at the Grammys in 2019. Every song on the album is certified by the RIAA, and she has collaborated with several successful artists like Bad Bunny, Migos, SZA, and many more. She has broken so many records that it is easy to say that Invasion of Privacy deserves to be one of the best hip-hop albums of all time.
The Hate and Comparisons of Cardi B
However, as I stated before, many on the internet are furious at this decision. Sadly, here are several reasons why people would not like to include her.
For starters, she does NOT write her own lyrics. All of her songs are party hits with no substance, several pieces have the same production, and all themes include sex, partying, drugs, and being a bad girl. This album sounds like a typical modern-day hip-hop album. Finally, this album is ranked higher than legends like Biggie, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Wayne, Nas, 2pac, Eminem, and many more. And that simply does not bode well with people. She is no legend like Biggie or 2pac, right?
Cardi B is an iconic entertainer whose success is no accident. She has worked hard to get where she is. As I have mentioned in another article, she should be on this list as the blueprint for success in the modern era. So, she should give herself more credit. Fans and critics should also not be so tough on her. Cardi didn’t write the Rolling Stone article, so why are critics so angry? It’s Rolling Stone’s opinion, not hers. Then again, it’s her fans who matter, not Rolling Stone. They will surely say, her album should be in the top 200!
