Kid Cudi, after much anticipation, has finally released his latest album, ‘Insano.’ Initially slated for a September release but delayed, ‘Insano’ finally made its debut this year. The album is a 21-track masterpiece, featuring collaborations with heavyweights like Travis Scott, A$AP Rocky, Lil Wayne, Lil Yachty, and others. Kid Cudi’s partnership with producers such as Jean Baptiste, Bnyx, Dot Da Genius showcases his ability to adapt his style and flow to the current musical zeitgeist. ‘Insano’ kicks off with an upbeat energy, signaling Cudi’s desire to showcase his versatility in the rap arena.
Initially, I speculated that ‘Insano’ might be a soundtrack for another one of Cudi’s upcoming animated movies – a theory that still holds potential. However, the album takes an unexpected turn midway, transitioning from trap beats to a laid-back, California beach vibe. So, light up a Legacy joint and embark on the hour-long journey that is ‘Insano.’
INSANO’S Album Art
First, lets talk about the abstract and colorful album art. He worked with artist KAWS to create variations of the art- which he gave us a sneak peak of at back in August. As mentioned, this ninth album was long overdue. However it offered insight into his mind and the artistic process of building some of the tracks on it. He started working on the album back in 2021 and has since amassed a slew of different artists to collaborate with to create the abstract album.
Kid Cudi ft. Pharrell & Travis Scott “At the Party”
This track replicates the intoxicating feeling of partying in true Cudi fashion. Dark and immersive, it captures the essence of the party scene with strobe lights, set to a haunting trap beat. It stands out for its ability to visually and sonically convey the party atmosphere.
Kid Cudi and XXXTENTACION “X & CUD”
Another track on INSANO that was on RMR Staff’s radar is the X & Cud track. The track delves into heavy themes of mental health and suicide. X & Cud strikes a balance between addressing serious issues and overcoming inner demons. The track, which samples XXXTentacion’s ‘Orlando‘ has garnered mixed emotions for its posthumous use of XXX’s vocals. However, it’s intent to commemorate and celebrate the late rapper’s legacy is evident.

Kid Cudi “Funky Wizard Smoke”
One of INSANO’s underrated gems, Funky Wizard Smoke contrasts the album’s predominant upbeat energy with a more relaxed vibe. Produced by a team including Bnyx, SADPONY, Patrick Wimberly, Wynne Bennett & Jean Baptiste, its a track that promotes positive vibes and introspections. In the post chorus Cudi raps, “Flyin’ ’round with God’s eyes, so enlightened, I pray so long that I find, he keeps a human whole…” embodying Cudi’s message of enlightenment and trust in a higher power. This is one of those tracks you’ll want to light up a Legacy Smalls joint, kickback and chill to, or start the morning to with a wake and bake sesh.
Overall INSANO is a reflective album, true to Kid Cudi’s artistic essence. It balances popular hits with underrated tracks, maintaining Cudi’s signature flow. While there are a few misses, the album predominantly hits the mark. He showcases his commitment to his art, style, and music. Give it a listen and let us know what you think about the album!
